What sony was that taken with? Did you do any PP? How about a link to the original image so I can examine at 100%. Thanks...

Thanks for posting the full size pic. I shoot lots of bird pics with my FZ18 with B300 teleconverter. I recently got a H20 for a more all around carry camera--I frequently leave the FZ at home unless taking it out for a special trip.

Anyway, I will try to get some close full zoom pics of little birds in good light to see how it compares. I don't claim to be a photo expert, but the 100% view shows the typical problems I see in all these cameras. The bird feathers in particular show detail problems--not sure where you see panasonic being so much better than the H20 for instance. In pics smaller than 13x19 I don't believe the differences will be discernable or viewed at less than 100%.

I think the modern large HD monitors have made people more aware of minute picture issues that were not observable on the old picture tube monitors. When you look at normal sized printed output--most of it is irrelevant imho. Take care, Paul.

The eye and the beak are very sharp, some smearing on
the feathers near the tail.

On the panasonic forum, saw a comparison between F70EXR and ZS3 for lower light outdoor pics. When it came to taking bird pics, the ZS3 autofocus apparently was so slow that the tester gave up on it and only bird shots were taken with the F70. Those birds show lots of detail...

Of course, in good light and up close and still, any of these cameras will take good pics--for a p&s.

it might be a user error as well ...the ZS has an option for quicker focussing called * one area high speed * i did not give it a try on birdies yet but it seems faster even in dark indoor sitations so my guess it will work faster outdoors as well.

i will report back with my findings soon i've made some birdie shots :-).

a few shots i made today and one from yesterday with flash ( my grandson fell asleep while playing)

u have a nice number of things to play with i'm still exploring the various setting options.

the scene modes seem to work as intended, iA works nicely and i find the camera's choices often very good.

in the normal mode u can play with EV and bracketing fix the ISO make a choice in focus area and much more to name, there is a hard button to change most important settings....this also works in many scene modes....but sometimes with limits.

this weekend i'm going to make my first prints.....at least at A4 size.

and all i can say this camera keeps surprising me, several AF modes to choose from
several Colour modes Standard/ Natural / Vivid B/W Sepia Cool Warm.
a bunch of good working Scene modes.

a very nice zoom range 25-300mm in 35mm terms.

the results are very consistent ...to keep it short i'm certain it will give many hours of fun with very nice/good image quality for a camera in this price range.

the TZ6/ZS1 sports a different sensor then the TZ7/ZS3 but the final image quality is very close ...i think thats prove enough that Panasonic is capable of making very good engines.

the plus for the TZ7/ZS3 HD video + bigger and better LCD.

the LCD has several settings and so far it worked good for me indoor and outdoors.

a happy Panasonic shooter among my other brands.

I have two panasonics. I just don't post the pics here and bash the sony's in the same thread.

ZS3 and TZ1. Like them both.

its made with the Panasonic TZ6/ZS1 i will put the orinal later today on flickr.

imho Sony is not offering anything in this class of camera's that comes close.
Only when i find it persistent and pervasive.
