A Little Rusty...

Ah, re-birthing a corpse is not always as depressing as some of the culture-shuffling that goes on.

Thank you for returning to comment. I didn't mean to appear evasive - my questions are honest questions. I can see that the second image has much more focus on 'music', and I should put the architect in me behind for the assignment.
I don't feel you were evasive at all, and I admire you for being an architect. I seriously considered studying architecture as a college student good at math over 50 years ago, but my passion for music won out. Best regards.

Architecture has been referred to as 'frozen music', but I think that disregards the best qualities of both subjects. ;-)

Thank you and best wishes.

I darkened down the background, and added a little extra blur in both photos. The close up, I made slightly cooler too. Any improvement?

For me, that seems to look better

Looks good to me! Nice job!

This one looks, to my eyes, better. the composition is more "instrument" and the instrument is immediately visible - no "what is that... oh, it's a contrabass clarinet". So yes, I think it is more fit for purpose.
I'd say this one is a more modest improvement, but still better.

make more images of people. you have a feel for it, a sense of humor and see shapes/lines.

Thanks!

Thank you.

Yes, I only touched the second image a little as the subject is fairly clear.

Thanks!

Thank you. I feel very nervous with people as I see so many beautiful portraits, but the musician is a very good friend so I wanted to help him out if I could.

Second photo is a nice composition, but the face is a bit too bright.
