A Cool Technique...

Very kind words...sure appreciate 'em. Yeah, I've used this applet on a few client's web sites. They are a big hit with some of them, plus they're efficient. And the shots..well, it's hard to botch shots in such a lovely place - not that I don't do it every day!

Very nice.....but how do you load all of the image references in
the HTML ?
Do you use Javascript or insert them manually with an editor ?
Tell me if I am wrong here, but none of these images are "visible"
to the browser and they cannot be downloaded to the users machine
directly ?
(of course, they are in the browser's cache....I understand that)
Hi Mark,

You're correct, the photos are not accessible via the browser. A pretty cool thing for people who are worried about the casual, right-clickin' photo thief. But yes, they are cached, so someone could get at them that way.

This applet is created via the Anfy software. It's pretty much a no-brainer to use and does all the scripting itself. You specify which photos to use and it does the rest. It will create an html doc for you, which don't use myself. I just copy the applet into the formatted html doc I want to use.

You have to have the ability to upload support files (.jar & .class files), so people who can't do that (such as someone without direct ftp access to web space), probably won't be able to use Anfy without paying them a web hosting fee. There's a whole spiel about that on their web site.

A couple of quick tips:

1. All the photos you use MUST be the same dimensions (eg 300x350 pixels..or whatever).

2. It's best to make a separate directory for all the files. The .jar and .class files must be in the same directory as the photos and the htm files.

3. If you want a border, do that in Photoshop. You can't add borders in the final applet.

It's pretty fun - lots of options (fade in/out,etc). Hope you enjoy it!
