The other day I had to open up my computer and replace some parts; having to wait for windows and all the software to reinstall, and having all those computer pieces at my disposal at once, I decided to go for some landscape shooting.... within the computer! I didn't want to go for a classic "product shot" though; as well, the pieces I had to work with were definitely not looking like new  so this is what came out. As always, C&C are most welcome.

All with the D2x and the 105 f2.8 Micro VR. Thanks for viewing!

Best regards,

Hi Vieri

You have a very gifted talent and ability of transferring everything into art. A very inspiring series for the cold and dark winter months...

Is it natural light or the desk lamp you used for illumination? Tell me, did you polish the computer parts before photographing them ... :-)

I couldn't agree more. You gave to the whole series some kind of surrealistic city looking with its skyscrapes, streets, luna park (ferrite core ring) and warehouse and factories (metal component coolers)

When do you think you will be ever in Parma for a meeting? ;)

Ciao

first of all thank you very much for your very nice words! Your comment about my art is very much aprpeciated indeed. About the lighting, for some pictures I did use a SB 800 as master on my D2x, and a SB 600 as a slave - all in manual mode; for the most part thoug I used a SB 800 off camera with a flash cord - again, all in manual mode. The computer pieces I used were kinda dusty, but I didn't have anything better than a rocket blower to take off the dust handy so that's what I used :- ) I know, they look almost like new but they have been in my machine for about a year or so...

Thanks again, best regards

thnak you very much for your comment and the very nice words :) I wish I could be coming to Italy soon, but I am afraid the earliest will be during the last week of july or so... let's keep in touch, it would be very nice to meet and have some food & wine while talking about photography and stuff - la mia famiglia per parte di padre e' di Viadana, MN quindi fin da piccolo ho una certa abitudine ai cibi e vini delle tue/nostre parti :) da quando sono qui a Istanbul, ovviamente mi manca assai soprattutto la parte costituita da salumi e viande a base di maiale in particolare... non si puo' avere tutto, Istanbul e' una bellissima citta' per molti altri versi!

A presto, grazie ancora

Vieri, these are simply awesome. I am really impressed. My favorite shots of yours in a while! Great color, what nice abstraction with narrow DOF. Yet another set of images that reminds me that there are excellent pictures in the most mundane of places.

Stunning pictures Vieri, the bokeh in #1 reminds me of some christmas light photos I recently took. Also, that's some paint job you have on your computer case in #5!

Many thanks for sharing!

Vieri, while they are awesome images, they are too clean.... My computer is so dirty inside that the chips are invisible, so you cheated... LOL

Nice work, as always. I too need to build a new PC. SOON!!!! My D2Xs images are KILLING the P4 3.4Ghz. I need more disk, more CPU and more RAM and more Video (well, that's for the games...)
Cheers

Its no problem leaving your computer on for the night. Just turn off your monitor unless it does so automatically.

And to vbd70 the shots are very nice. Electronic components offer many photooportunities with their strong colours and interesting patterns. Your shots are a good example.

These make me want to pull my hair all out, man! At least what's left of them. Please stop!

Jokes aside, these are genius IMHO, and quite spectacular!! I'm so envious of especially #5 and 7, I could cry...

Please keep up the good work you do.

Those shots are amazing.
Can you please describe the setup and lighting used?
