I had just sat down to eat lunch and had the first bite of my sandwich when I heard what sounded like a hurricane behind me. Then the room turned white and I ran away from the sound. When I turned around I saw the glass and other debris still coming down. Then I saw the truck and the pore woman pined to the soda fountain. As all the people that had run into the center of the room started to take inventory of them selves, someone noticed that there was blood on the floor near us. One man had a bad laceration on his hand, another on his ear. I asked someone to check my back as I was covered in glass and he told me I was fine. Then I fell into a chair. When the fire department responded moments later they evacuated the restaurant and I sat there. One fire fighter came over to me and I told him, "Not the way I wanted to spend lunch getting showed by glass and debris." I pointed out the chair I had been sitting in with the truck 4 inches behind it. He asked if I was OK and I told him I thought so, though I was in shock. He told me to stay where I was and try to relax. As I started to feel better about 15 or 20 minutes later he saw me looking at my lunch and came over and suggested I not eat it. I looked up and said I had already come to that conclusion even though I saw no glass.

I saw horrible things that I have left out of my account of the incident. It was very pleasant spending the evening with my family.

Time to give thanks to the lord Morris. I'm very glad your ok but this will be with you for awhile for sure. A weekend out with your camera may help. Again I'm glad your ok, Ken

I'm very glad you are ok morris, my prayers are with you and others who might have been injured or killed, a sad thing! God bless.

Rob

OMG. I'm so glad you were not seriously hurt.

What a tragedy. You just think you're going in for lunch and never come out. :( I will be thinking of that poor woman and her family.

Very glad to hear that you're OK, Morris.

Sometimes that "do and think later" type reaction proves to be worth more than anything.
I'm probably opening a can of worms, but from one of the articles:

"The driver of the second van was taken into custody and faces marijuana possession charges"

All I can say is "figures".

Holy cow! That was close! I'm relieved to hear that you are okay. What a tragedy for the man who lost his wife. Normally I like to sit near the window...mabye I will start sitting toward the center from now on. Keep shooting!

Morris,

Like all, I am really glad you are ok, but sorry for the ordeal you have experienced. My prayers will be with you and the poor elderly lady. We all know you would be irreplacable on this forum, but more importantly, you are irreplacable to your family!

I second the idea that you might benefit from a day doing some of your wonderful wildlife photography!

I'm glad you're OK Morris. This sort of thing is reported from around the country just about every night on Phoenix TV. I'm looking forward to more good stuff from you when you get over the shock. I enjoy your work and comments.

omg, im glad you didnt decide to sit by a window for lunch, i usually do so i can enjoy the scenery..but no more.

even though im new to the forum i would've definetly missed your photos had anything horrible happened.
im sure we're all very glad your ok.

Glad to hear you're all right. Family is the best medicine immediately after such a brush.
A prayer for all those that have more than just shock to deal with.
Anything can happen during the most mundane routine of our lives you never know.

Morris, glad to hear you're OK

I too had a close call a month ago when I fell off a ladder while cleaning gutters. I am still home recooperating from the two fractured arms, 4 ribs and nose.

If my wife had not been home I wouldn't be writing this now as she heard the noise and had me flown via helicopter to a trauma center.

My guardian angel was looking over me and gave me a second chance.

I've climbed three times higher and fallen before when nothing happened to me but this time I was not so lucky.

The point that I am trying to make is that everything that happens has to do with destiny. I am now more of a believer than ever and I too enjoy spending time with my family as you mentioned on your last sentence.

Having said all of that, life goes on and even though you can take precations, there is nothing anyone can do to change destiny.

good luck
