602: More samples

I presume people still want to see some samples from the 602 -
Yes please! These shots are a good advert for the 602 and also a
good display for potential tourists to Amsterdam. I have a Canon
A20 which I want to replace with a higher resolution digicam this
summer. Have been looking at the Canon G2 BUT the lack of an EVF
puts me off and have been considering the 602. I'm assuming that in
bright sunlight where the G2's LCD is difficult to read the 602's
EVF will be clear and very readable.

Continue the good work with the 602 shots.

Cliff
Thanks Cliff. Yep, the (improved over the 4900) EVF works fine even in bright sunlight.

WONDERFUL! And ALL pictures!
Thanks Eppie.
Howcome are the first pictures I saw not that good? Good but not
that good like these.
Maybe 3M fine, ISO160 are the best settings and of course a good
photographer ;-) is needed for making such photo's.
These are really the best photo's I have seen of the Fujis602z and
also straight out of the camera.
Not sure if I share your opinion about these being better than the first test shots. I think on those first shots, where there were many 6mp fine ones, you (and others?) judge the pics viewed 1 on 1, obviously not fair because the cam is really (a very good) 3mp cam (though lots of 6mp shots can stand a 1:1 view). I like 6mp over 3mp though (for more cropping freedom).
Very nice photo of that men who is walking (nr.9 I think) ;-)
I'll let you in on a secret: the guy (in pic 19) was a living statue. An art form you see a lot in Amsterdam and I believe all over the world (but not in Belgium?). Really amazing how long these guys can stand still for ages not moving a single muscle. Pic 17/18 shows the same thing.

Hey there Mark -

Thanks again for more posts. It's great to hear you are enjoying
the camera and the resultant pictures show it. If the Blues
Brothers are there, it must be cool! Wonderful use of color in
your shots. And what a great bronze statue on dsc0017 & 18. My
wife would love to visit the shop in dsc038 & 41. But where are all
the "working girls"? ;-)
Thanks Seth. Like I just replied a post up, those aren't bronze statues, actually humans pretending to be one. I did walk around in the "working girls" area, but sometimes I think it's more wise to keep your camera in the bag :-)
Q: are you using "normal" sharpening? The reason I ask is that
there has been some discussion here about using soft and then
sharpening in software. This "smoothing" would be the only thing
that I have seen on the 602 that I question. It doesn't always show
up, but it kinda bugs me when it does. No reflection on you, but
an example of the sharpening/noise reduction issue (blah,
blah, blah) is the bricks on the building in your newest post at
dsc0013 http://www.pbase.com/image/2479331/original
Am I being too critical?
Seth
Ah, another attempt to drag me into a sharpening/noise/smoothing discussion. Won't work :-)
These were all shot at normal sharpening.

You are not being to critical, at least not in my eyes. One thing I will say about it, I think you can't judge a camera (more its pics) on a few samples shot under all sorts of different situations. Existing light (how much), how clear is the air (obviously not very clear on a dark, rainy day), all come into play.

Phil's tests with resolution charts and things like that are the ones you want to look at for a fair judgement. And I believe there was very little comment on those (controlled situation) shots.

Hope you can make your decision soon and start enjoying what ever camera, because that's what it's all about, no?

I'm intersted in the burst mode, 5 fps, last 5 kept....I'm looking
for a camera I can use for my nephew's hockey games and niece's
track meets...can you maybe take a sequence of soemthing moving
relatively fast like that?
Haven't tried the last 5 fps on sports like you mention. I did use the "normal" 5 fps on some cycling shots (dunno if you've seen those). Anyway if you follow this link:
http://www.pbase.com/markspix/602_test_june_08&page=3

Numer 47, 48 and 50 are from a 5 fps, I didn't upload the two missing ones though.

are an extraordinary photographer, or you got THE best 602 that
Fuji built. I suspect it's the former.
Easy Ed
Thanks Ed. Let's put it this way, any lousy shot coming out of this cam is my stupidity, I'm only human, humans make mistakes, computers don't (well hardly ever).

The guy in number 33 looks like he doesn't like his picture taken.

Those look great! I got to view them all full size and they were
wonderful.
Hmmm how much can I get for my D7? You guys keep pulling off those
and I might give it up. Or just get the Fuji also. ;-)

Nice!

Darrin
Thanks you Darrin. I agree with you on #33, I always wonder why some people look so tensed/angry when a camera shows up.

Good luck on your choice,

Some of the shots are ok , but some are not, some underexposed one of the grasslands not very sharp at all, the one with the red flowers , overblown reds resulting in loss of detail. i have seen better and i have seen worse from this camera, just keep trying and keep experimenting your shots eventually will start to improve.

You only live once ,and always suck the lemon.

have a nice day and don't loose your head, it will show your lack of maturity and your age.

Thanks Eric, coming from you that means a lot :-)
All I can hope for is that 'eventually' is not too far in the future.

Mark,

Could you please do me and others a huge favor and take a few shots in 3mp/fine with soft sharpening. It doesn't have to be anything special. Anything around the house or wherever you happen to be at the time. I like your eye for framing and would ike to see how they come out. If you do, please post in a new thread so we can all see it immediately. Thanks.

Fuji should send you a commision for helping them sell more cameras with your positive attitude and samples.
I presume people still want to see some samples from the 602 -
judging by the fact that my first test shots album still gets many
hits to this very moment. So here are some test shots from a walk
in Amsterdam, capital of The Netherlands, this afternoon. All
3mp/fine, straight out of cam, not even cropped. Mind that most of
the time it was either raining, about to start to rain, or it had
just stopped to rain.

Not fishing for compliments or anything like that, I just hope this
can help people make up their minds as to whether they like this
cam or not. Seems to become an ugly discussion from time to time,
so here is some more ammo for those people :-)

Still love the cam, not found a single thing I dislike. As I wrote
before, I don't take part in discussions on noise, fringing
etc...(find that boring and useless) but I would like to say again
that the feel (that includes operating) of the cam is one of its
best features.

The great focus speed, EVF and battery life help a lot there. I use
this cam almost as if it is an (d)slr, most of the time after I
take a shot I don't even bother to switch the cam off, so ready for
the next in a split second.

All and all quite a different experience that I think you have to
feel for yourself to know what I am talking about.

Of course I'm willing to answer any questions anyone might have.

I didn't saw that on picture 17/18.

Very nice. I like that photo very much!

Jay Sottolano also has some requests so I'll make a new album with a variety of both your wishes.

Yes, after I posted my request, I read hard sharpening might be better than normal. It will be interesting to see the soft and hard 3mg fine shots

Some great shots. Loved the one of the guy with the tie in the air! Finding out that he was acting as a living sculpture is even better!!

Have you tried out the Super Macro yet? That is one of the key new functions that interest me. Currently I am a 4900 user and very happy with it.

Keep giving us those excellent photos.

Thanks Bill. I love that shot myself too, easiest shot of them all to shoot, but still.... :-)

Hmmm, that super macro... I too had that feature high on my favourite improvements list. I didn't really test it yet, just some snapshots (not worth posting).

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I think (again from snapshots, will do a descent test one of these days) it doesn't live up to the expectations.

With cam set to super macro you can get very close (2 cm/1 inch) but how useful is that in the field? You're blocking all light for yourself, perhaps indoor with proper lighting it can be useful, but that's not what I had in mind, they invented scanners for that :-)

Second thing is that you can't use any zoom (you still can zoom half way in normal macro mode, as with the 4900) in super macro mode, so all and all I think you end up with a subject just being a little bigger than with regular macro and max zoom.

Will let the forum know if I did some proper testing, perhaps other 602'ers can share their findings so far?

Just to cover my butt I'll say it again: these are first impressions with quick snapshots, it could be better than what I found up to this moment.

Darn, I bet I now blew my chance on a free Fuji I had earned in the past week :-)
