5D Mk II -- the most versatile camera in the world

Exactly! Silly comparison, no?
Not exactly, from the article:
I was responding to the comparison of D3x and A900 failures (the
newest batch of hi-res cameras). A sample of 26 5DII's vs. 1 D3x and
2 A900 (not used at the same time, one was a back-up) would be
considered an unfair statistical comparison by most people. What if
there had been 26 A900's and 26 D3x's and 1 or 2 5DII's that survived
just fine. Since 20 did survive, it would be likely.
Exactly.

Just think. The way some of these people are extrapolating from these stats, if one A900 had failed the Sony would have a 50% failure rate.

Or to put it another way, as 20 Canons worked flawlessly and two A900s did, Canon is ten times better than Sony. It's stupid logic, but no more stupid than what people are using.

If I had been on that expedition my 5D would not have failed. Yeah, I am sure of it.

When I am weighing the pros and cons of this camera, just two things give me pause: low light auto-focus and banding. I am not in the market at D3 prices for a full frame, so Nikon has NO viable alternative for me.

The rest, from what I have seen, is user error.
Also, this trip seems to be a moving target as far as the reporting.
On the LL forums, now we're reading that only 3 5DII's had moisture
problems, and 2 came back to life when dried out. The cover story on
LL, written by one of the 5DII users, suggests that 3 cameras had
failures due to moisture, but then says that represents 25% of the 26
cameras (?). MR reported that one of the failures was actually a
cracked LCD (unknown cause) and a loose screw on a lens mount. This
is ignored in the other user article.

Other users say that 2 of the failed cameras were properly encased in
waterproof bags, but then say water had gotten inside the shutter
button in sufficient quantity to corrode metal parts.
Someone also pointed out that the camera was in a waterproof bag during the session in which it failed, but NOT in an earlier boat ride. As others have pointed out, corrosion = salt.
Something made only the 3 5DII's on this one trip fail from moisture,
while no one else in the world, in much worse weather/moisture
conditions have reported a single failure. I don't have a 5DII yet,
but there's nothing about this one trip that would make me not
purchase the camera.
Agree.

And if you shoot Raw and don't consider jpegs important when they
come out of a Nikon, why were you insisting on your rumours about a
(falsely reported as it turns out) jpeg-only problem in Canon cameras?

That colour issue simply does NOT occur in Raw anyway.
Don't you understand personal shooting style is one thing and to
convey an information is another?
But we're talking MISinformation. That you happen to LIKE to believe. Why would that be I wonder?
You are very obstinate. Unless you
belong to a bulldog family I guess even your wife will agree upon my
view about you.
Given you are right here with me I guess you are referring to your own Mrs.

Actually, if Confucius' word is translated letter by letter it is as
follows. 'It is no shame to ask a junior (a question).'
In fact, it's such archaic Chinese that "translations" are always open to much interpretation, as I believe you know. I know Chinese scholars who are arguing over the meaning of individual Confucius and Laozi phrases to this very day.

For all that I agree with your quotation, even though you appear to be using it as a form of one-upmanship, which I doubt Confucius intended. The young people I work with and hire are preferable to me than the burned out old farts whose experience is spoiled by "seen-it-all-before" attitudes. (Not that this is a matter of age.)

But the biggest problem with Confucius is that his meaning invariably gets twisted to suit the ends of whoever is quoting him. Only a scoundrel would use his words to justify unquestioning respect for authority for instance, but that interpretation underpins most teaching of his thoughts.

I've long been more interested Taoism and Buddhism than Confucius, but I have one scholar friend who insists that he was much more of a rebel than conventional wisdom holds.

However, I do believe he had little to say about quoting ill-informed criticisms of Canon, or Nikon for that matter.

Peace.

Build QC issue -- misalignment of the optical viewfinder and
misalignment of the AF points requiring cameras to be returned to
Nikon (as reported by Thom Hogan--a Nikon expert--and others). Why
are you such a Nikon fanboy that you want problems in an $8,000
camera ignored, but you post endlessly about a Canon camera you claim
you would never want?
You argue like a woman. You twist things around and change the
subject to suit your biases. I never said it was ok for Nikon or any
other camera company to put out flawed cameras. YOU are the one who
downplays the NUMEROUS problems in Canon cameras.
It's apparently not your life's mission to rag on Nikon, and you DO downplay every issue they face.

When did Canon fire you?

Unfortunately I am a divorcee. Like Harrison Ford I am looking for a lady who is 22 years junior to me. Yes, I know. The chances are slim. But hope is good thing as Tim Robbins said in Shawshank Redemption.

I searched for the word analectically and I found the word analects. This kind of word I believe we do not use in everyday English. I guess you have a large vocabulary which I think I am not short of. Maybe the time I change the thought about myself.

One-upmanship? You are very harsh.^^
Burned out old farts, interesting expression

I share your feeling about scoundrel who uses Confucius' words to justify unquestioning respect for authority, so is it safe that I presume myself not a scoundrel?

Jesus, the last sentence spoils your excellent writing.

You have an excellent knowledge about the Orient in which my knowledge is meager.
I am nearly saying I respect you but I guess Wow will suffice for the moment.

In Pace
