540 slave mode question

so i have a big shoot comming up on sunday and my photographer friend loaned me his studio lights with triggers

my question is . i cant get my af540 to flash in slave mode when his nikon sb900 will .

i have it set up correctly i think , cuz when i pop up my flash on my camera it works like its suppose to , but the studio lights ever turned all the way down on power still wont make my 540 pop off and flash .. what am i doing wrong?

If you're using studio strobes to trigger your 540, make sure you're in Slave Mode 2 (SL2). Hold down the "Light" button for a few seconds until the SL mode shows. I'm assuming it will show SL1. Turn the adjustment dial until your lcd shows SL2. Then, press the "Light" button again. That should do the trick.

If you were in SL1 mode, your 540 is looking for the preflash PTTL signals which your studio strobes won't provide.

it was set on PH . but i have it on SL2 now .

ill find out saturday when i set up for sundays shoot which works
