my first 828 pixs

Take a look at the UPS truck, the lights indoors. I'm suprised to see some straight line angles showing jaggies like that. Of course that won't show much in prints except maybe starting on 8X10s.

Ooops. I posted the same thing, but a bit later than you. Sorry for the repeat. Yeah, I noticed that too. Look at the wide angle shot of the UPS truck and look at the bottom lines of the logo.

Brian
Here is a crop of what I mean:

It does get rather pretty, though, doesn't it? :-)
I wonder what the F717 would have done with the CA in some of these?
Whoa! You're right, there is a lot of CA and noise, especially the
pic with the mail man's car...

Yikearoonies... noise doesn't look so bad, but doesn't the CA seem
a little extreme?! Every single hotspot has CA... look at the
leaves on the bush...

Noise is manageable, but let's just hope this CA is because of the
extreme conditions (bright sunlight). This could take "exposing
for the highlights" to a whole new level.

Thanks for putting them up RAG!

Jim
Yeah, and there's some purple fringing too, but these shots are way way better than any of the other samples I've seen so far. Given the dimensions of the image and all the other plus factors to this camera I'm more than happy with this level of quality at this resolution. The colours are nice and vivid (although I'll probably saturate mine right up!) and the CA-free level of detail is very good. No complaints at all, although I do wonder what the hell Sony were thinking of putting those horrible shots of the poor girl with greenish skin tone up on their site. Totally looking forward to the UK deliveries now!

Thankyou for posting the the images of your new camera.

I am also not a professional photographer but from the examples it is not a great improvement of the F717. The lighter green colour of the bush particularly the blurred background gives off an unnatural glow, this was the same problem with the F717. The red petals of the flower looks real bad, I mean seriously, they look so unnatural and seems to bleed all over each other. The picture of the car particularly the reflection looks over exposed more over processed and noise very obviouse throughout every picture (thats expected for this camera). Picture quality is not in the same league as the 300D, I have taken better examples using default settings with the kit lens.

Agreed. This is worse case CA, and it is not that bad. I am pleasantly surprised and am very happy for all those new 828 owners out there.

At first I thought the image was improperly upsampled, but it wasn't. The CA is a miserable killer. Color is great as well as exposure for full auto mode.

I don't care for it one bit. CA, jaggies, noise, and now the colors. Like I've stated many times, this might just be a downgrade from a 717.

CA is there but I don't think it's any worse than 717 levels. Reflections off chrome and glass and anything silohouetted against the sun is going to introduce CA. I don't think the CA is that bad. It's there for sure, but once photographers figure out what the sweet aperture is, and the cameras other quirks, I think CA will not be as bad.

I am actually surprised how well the camera performs, and 8mP sure is nice

No wonder you're not showing more of your pictures from the U60...
LOL!!! - belive me, it's the most fun camera ever made, even OUTSIDE the bathroom, it's great fun for shooting people miserably trudging around in downpours, dangling in fishtanks on string with the timer engaged and all sorts of other aquatic pranks.. No one bats an eye at it as it looks like a Yuppie mobile phone and they just think "Oh there's another moron trying out the 320x200 crapcam built into his Ericcson " little do they know that i've shot their sorry wet ass in full 2mp Sony glory ;-) ..

Sorry folks, Let ya get back to discussing the 828, there never was much interest in Sony's "Soggycam" here ;-)

Did you notice that in many cases the jaggies (and other gradations) are in two-pixel blocks? I thought this might be JPG related at first, but now I'm not sure.

Well of course they are. I expect many various people who own various cameras will show up out of curiosity over the 828. I presume you think this is a good thing, and would like to hear their opinions, right? Or were you implying something else perhaps?

Wild and uninformed speculation on my part, but could this be anything to do with the different 4-colour sensor? Norman Bayer algorythyms presumably would not cut it, so they would have had to start from scratch?
If so, it might be firmware addressable

Maybe, but I also own the F717, I refuse the F828 after seeing some preproduction image which is exactly the same as the production model. If its good I will buy it.

Those samples of yours from the F828 are great. Those who talk about CA and jaggies will find fault no matter what you do. I seen that with the C5050 and when people learned to use the camera properly it disappeared. If it bothers you, just reduce the sharpness. As far as CA is concerned, it doesn't matter to me. All digital cameras in certain situations will show some CA. In general I felt the quality of the pictures were excellent. Have fun with your new camera.
