Here's a rather specific question regarding the A7R V.

I currently have the A7 IV and often use the focus magnification mode to punch in to the live view to get a better look at far away birds.

My question is this: Does the A7R V use its full resolution in focus magnification view? If so it should be a significant upgrade for this use case.

It does. If using a sharp lens the v offers almost double the resolution which is like putting a lossless extender on said lens. So this advantage is for those times one isn’t close enough to fill the frame with the bird. The V gets you closer without physically getting closer.

I don't have an A7IV, so I can't compare, but on the A7RV I can see either 1.0x or 4.7x magnification for MF. But the biggest difference should be on the displays: 1MP vs 2Mp for the rear screen and 3.7Mp vs 9.4Mp for the EVF. That should show way more detail when adjusting focus.
