Let's start with the statistics: there were 12 entries from 4 submitters. There were 67 exhibits.

The entries were taken with the following equipment:

6 DSC-RX10M4 (SONY)
2 DSC-RX100M7 (SONY)
2 NIKON D40 (NIKON CORPORATION)
1 DSC-RX1RM2 (SONY)
1 NIKON D7200 (NIKON CORPORATION)

The exhibits taken with determinable equipment (2 were lacking the respective EXIF data) were taken with the following:

14 DSC-RX10M4 (SONY)
7 DSC-RX100M7 (SONY)
4 Canon EOS M6 (Canon)
4 ILCE-6000 (SONY)
4 NIKON D40 (NIKON CORPORATION)
3 ILCE-7M3 (SONY)
3 NIKON D7200 (NIKON CORPORATION)
2 Canon EOS REBEL T3 (Canon)
2 DMC-FZ300 (Panasonic)
2 DSC-RX100M2 (SONY)
2 DSC-RX100M5 (SONY)
2 ILCE-6300 (SONY)
2 X-T5 (FUJIFILM)
1 Canon PowerShot G11 (Canon)
1 D-LUX 5 (LEICA)
1 DSC-H50 (SONY)
1 DSC-W30 (SONY)
1 GR II (RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD.)
1 ILCE-7C (SONY)
1 LEICA Q2 (LEICA CAMERA AG)
1 NIKON Z f (NIKON CORPORATION)
1 PENTAX K-5 II s (PENTAX)
1 SM-G990U2 (samsung)
1 X-Pro1 (FUJIFILM)
1 X-T1 (FUJIFILM)
1 X-T2 (FUJIFILM)
1 hp photosmart 735 (Hewlett-Packard)

So Sony (somewhat expected in this group) makes up the bulk of equipment in both entries and exhibits, with the latest RX10 and RX100 models leading the charge. After that top group, the age gets a lot more diverse.

Stay tuned for the actual results!

Let's start by the honorable mentions from entries and exhibits, in no particular order:

Kit sent in this image of ingenious Halloween decoration that will retain its freshness for years:

Kahn sent in this New York impression that manages to convey the season by the colors of the background blur and the attire of the subject:

Central Park

Nick provided this image of the Mississippi showing the signs of the season:

And Kahn provided one of the few shots actually bothering with another meaning of "fall" as I declared valid for this challenge:

Um fall?
Um fall?

Now lets get to the places:

Third place was taken by Greg with his two bird dogs Bliss and Joy scouring a wide autumn landscape:

Second place was Jerry's sugar maple tree: for whatever reason I really liked the way this image shaped its contents:

Entry #2 My Sugar Maple tree in my front yard.

And first place and winner:

Alwyn's reflexive blend of machine and nature was quite eye-catching!

So Alwyn, you are up next. I'll try digging up the instructions in another post.

Now I do have one dishonorable mention to make: this particular shot does not seem to feature any fall colors at all and I quite rubbed out my eyes while desperately looking for some player's fall, but alas: in a game replete with falls, we got one shot that doesn't actually feature one.

At least the umpire was wearing long-legged trousers, though many in the stands weren't.

Gotta love engineers!! :-)

Very interesting. No cell phone cameras - THAT surprised me. Maybe a reflection of the age demographic here?

This Challenge starts right now and ends at "you select the time".

Maximum of three entries and five exhibits per member, so take your time and choose carefully. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place Winners will be selected only from Entries. Honorable Mentions will be selected only from Exhibits. As usual, coveted Dishonorable Mentions will be issued as necessary to keep your judge amused.

The photo must be taken by you and only you (you pressed the shutter button, self timer or remote shutter release).

DPREVIEW rules regarding propriety apply. Any equipment and any post-processing may be used. I'll allow the use of AI as part of processing the final image, but if you used AI, that must be disclosed and it must not substantially alter the image content and message.

Please submit your pictures as a REPLY to this post.

Please indicate clearly whether your image is an Entry or an Exhibit. An undesignated post will be considered an Exhibit.

Comments on others' photos are also strongly encouraged!! These mini-challenges and the weekly Show, Tell and Critique thread are some of the ways we on the forum can get to know and learn from one another.

Before posting your Entry or Exhibit, please take the time and comment on someone else's image. By doing so, you may encourage more forum participation.

PLEASE consider making some of your posts Entries. We seem to cycle through the same few hosts of these Challenges. New and different hosts would help keep these Challenges fun with new and different ideas, and you can make as much or as little work of the hosting as you like. Thanks!

The 1st place winner will host the next Challenge, selecting the theme. If the winner does not respond within 3 days or declines to host, the 2nd place winner becomes the host. If the second-place winner declines, the 3rd place winner becomes the host.

Thank you, Dak, for a very seasonable theme for the challenge. Most interesting statistics!

Congrats to all the well-deserved HM's and winners.

I might offer a comment on the DM. It seems that football season, here in the States, generally occurs in the Fall, thus a slight connection.

I look forward to Alwyn's next challenge.

Thanks for #2. I had three sugar maples in the front yard, but our community folks cut one down and replaced it with a little oak tree this spring. I will say that the one they took down was looking a bit straggly and was definitely not totally healthy. The oak tree has not yet changed colors, so I have no idea what it will look like when it does.

Oh wow, thanks for the award Dak, really appreciate the compliment. I love this time of year so I really enjoyed the MC and all the submitted photographs: my thanks to all and congrats to the winners and HM's.

Now to try and figure out what to use as the next subject...

Dak, this is an MC with wonderful colors and images. Congrats to all the HMs and Winners. Alwyn's Winner is a psychedelic experience like nothing I've seen before in photography, and In my opinion a winner by a mile.

Thank you for the HM! The credit really goes to my wife who put together the display, I just had to make sure I don't screw up taking a picture.

Congrats to the HM and to the Winners!

Aloha,

Val

Thanks for a fun Challenge, David. Thanks also for the Place. Congrats to the HM's and Places. Finally, congrats to the DM recipient, even though here fall and football go together for many people (not me).

Greg

Thanks for running the challenge. I enjoyed many beautiful photos.

(It seems that the software has some bugs, there are five Canon M6 photos. It says 4.)
It is more likely that I overlooked or omitted (and forgot about it) an image when scraping through the thread. "The software" was just a script of the kind

exiftool -p '$model ($make)' exhibits/ | sort | uniq -c | sort -k 1rn

There isn't a lot that can go wrong here. It is possible that I went "ok, this is clearly not better than the previous image from the same poster" at some point of time before I thought of creating statistics. Or that I accidentally skipped over one of multiple entries when saving them all by hand in order to judge them later. Or that the directory proposed for saving one file was wrong and I overlooked to correct this, and now one of your exhibits is clogging up disk space of mine in an unintended place.

Thank you very much Dak for the HMs. It was a fun MC subject and now I want to catch some more fall images before the season ends. Congrats to all HMs and the places and the DM!

David - nice challenge, nicely managed. Plenty of great fall images on display!

I must say, for someone who is adverse to handing out DM like candy, receiving one from yourself is a treat indeed - thanks, I think. My interest in football is sporadic but spending time outside on a nice sunny fall day is wonderful pastime before sleet and snow arrive. It also helps avoid raking leaves, pulling up annuals, moving lawn furniture, etc etc.

:-):-)

Seriously, fun challenge and I do appreciate the DM and the HM. Alwyn's creative use of a car as a backdrop for his leafy image is great stuff and a deserved winner. Congrats!
