We had some crazy good National Geographic quality wildlife photos any of which could have won the challenge. The exhibits were fabulous also. I use my artist/photographer wife to help me judge and we picked the same top two, but in different order. Here are some of my favorites and the winner:

Honorable Mention 2Sealsonwheels' Nice bison photo with the ample steam from the geyser (I love seeing the bison at Yellowstone.)

NicholasD's uber cute photo of a raccoon peaking out of a tree. I am not a huge fan of raccoons because they terrorize and murder our chickens when given the chance and have done a ton of damage to my father's cabin in the mountains, but they are cute.

Second Runner up. 2 Sealsonwheels' Bull moose Great shot and great detail. I love the portrait look with him looking at the camera. They are hard to get without sticks in the way.

First runner up is the Zion Cliff Sheep (though they looked a lot like Desert Mountain Goats to me). All the goats doing something different made the photo very interesting, plus having them on a cliff was a big plus. This was my wife's favorite. I also liked Damnerd's prong horns and his exhibit of the Uinta ground squirrels were fantastic. (My favorite and if it wasn't an exhibit would have been my top pick). Really all of his pics were great!

This was my top pick, Chuvarsky's Guardian of the Den. I love the detail and lighting and the backlit image with the dark background really sets it off. Chuvarsky, the next Challenge is yours.

Marty, nice theme for the challenge and some wonderful images on display! Really liked the fox for the reasons you mentioned. Thanks for including me among the mentions. For the record, I’m with you regarding raccoons - they can do a lot of damage. I suspect the tree was a convenient nest - raccoon showed up late spring and hung around for a few weeks. Enjoyed seeing the cuteness but glad when it departed.

Do you walk into an art exhibit or walk up to an artist at his easel and say "let me see a brush, I'll fix it for you"?
That is ludicrous.

Thanks Don. And thanks for the edification! I used to be better at keeping critters straight then I am now.

Thanks for hosting the challenge. And thanks for the recognition. The Fox was a chance encounter, with his mate sleeping below the wood pile where the den was.
