I just did a road trip where I used primes instead of zooms, and the Nikon 135 Plena was one of them. Yes, set to F5.6-F8 mostly, but wow those corners are clean! Not very practical for air travel, but no problem to have big lenses in the car.

Anyway, it was fun to be able to use my favorite lenses in my favorite venues instead of leaving them at home. I mostly used the Nikon 35 F1.2, but the Plena didn't disappoint.

Very nice shots, Craig. It was well worth bringing the Plena. I hope to visit Mesa Verde one day (speaking as anthropologist and photographer).

Nice pics, I have found in the past my 105mm DC lens is a pretty good range for slightly tele landscape shots on holiday.

MoL

Bothe the 105 and 135 DC lenses make great mini tele landscape lenses when stopped down a couple of stops to f/4 or better . . . fab lenses!!!

A most versatile lens, for outside the studio

I dont see the benefit of such a lens in this use case. In daylight outdoors I think a 24-300 equivalent range is best. Most easily covered if you are carrying two cameras and leave one in the car.

Absolutely take your best lenses for travel.

If I ever travel it will be to take the best possible images that I can. From an architecture and landscape photography point-of-view, that is the whole point.

I'll even be taking my Nikon 8mm f2.8 AI-S!
