I bought this combination to replace my RX10iv for wildlife photography and have been extremely happy with it. These are from my NY backyard and from a recent trip to southern Florida. All from raw via DXO PL8, cropped, at 100%

The pictures presented show a good result. The reach of the lens is fantastic. The image quality is also good.

Of course, the "portability" of this lens will only appeal to those who can actually "lug" the considerable weight of the lens around the field for several hours. ;) :)

It's a beast weighing more than, say, APS-C/FF Sigma 150-600 Contemporary.

Happy shooting

and

Merry Xmas.

The lens is heavy, but a good harness makes a huge difference. With the Op/Tech elastic harness and the longer foot (see https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4788340 ) I can carry the lens all day cross-body without discomfort. The camera OIS is extraordinary and I very much like the "slide to zoom" functionality.

Yep, the right harness is a key to solve the carrying fatigue. And a longer foot is a must, as with the shorter original one a quick grabbing is less secure. When around one must reacts swiftly.

Hi Sherman:

Looks like the new combo is working well for you. I also have this set and enjoy using although it is a handful. Also had the RX10iv and wish they would come up with a RX10v.

Hi, Dale

Thank you. I'd have stayed with the RX10 line if they'd announced an update, and I'll still keep it as an "everything except birding" camera, but I really wanted the bird eye autofocus and the pro-capture features. The autofocus speed is excellent, and the OIS is fantastic.

Well done to the OP for great pics! I think this lens is a good one, but I have passed the point in life where I could have carried it for a few hours.

A very productive trip I'd say!
