Hello

I would like to connect my KP to a monitor via HDMI. I have one of these for that bought for the KP, but it doesn't work, as it seems some others don't either. Do you know which one works and where I could order it?

best regards KPM2

There are mini, micro and full size HDMI connectors. For the K5 / K5 IIs I have the micro, and for the K1 I need the mini.

Since I shoot almost exclusively with the K1, I have given myself there options,

an HDMI to mini HDMI adapter which plugs onto a long standard HDMI cable.
a shorter mini HDMI to HDMI cable , either either plugs into a monitor / TV or
connects to another HDMI cable with a "barrel" connector.
All these bits were the ones amazon was selling at the time.

Both work. But.

(a) Both plugs that I have are prone to falling out of the camera, the force needed to pull the plug out is less than the weight of the cable - so I usually improvise something

(b) Some combinations just refuse to work. I had a failure with one in a hotel which would work with my laptop, but none of the HDMI options on the K1 would get a picture. When I got home the camera and cables worked with three different screens.

The OP wants to connect his KP, which, as he correctly mentions, needs a SlimPort adaptor ... the KP doesn't have an HDMI socket per se, but a dual-purpose USB port.

I purchased a generic "no-brand" adaptor from an on-line retailer that works fine.

The criteria would seem to be to NOT use an external power supply for the adaptor, but to allow the camera to power the device. I don't remember where I read that advice, but it was emphasised, and I've had no issue.

One other point to note :- the unit does act as a weight on the USB port of the camera. I'd suggest arranging some kind of restraint to minimise the load.

Good luck :)

Thank you very much for your answer, but as I already kypfer wrote, the problem with the KP is especially for a Pentax camera, because it doesn't have an HDMI output, only a micro USB, therfore the need for an SlimPort USB to HDMI adapter.

Can you give me the name of the adapter and the on-line retailer ?

I bought one of those adapter too, only it worked for about 2 minutes and then it was over. And it had the analogix chip recommended in the KP manual, but the adapter was made far too cheaply. On the analogix.com website you can find that the SlimPort is 'compliant' with USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode. Ok my English is not the best, but I now have a monitor with this input and just ordered a micro USB to USB-C cable. Let's see if that maybe works.

My bad. I thought the KP used the same connections as other Pentaxes of the same time.

That is consistent across all camera cables :-)

Sorry, I have no record of the supplier ... I made the purchase some years ago.

The unit I have looks like the picture below ... there is no brand name.
