Hi all - I've been shooting with Sony APSC bodies for over a decade now just an enthusiast. I recently had to get rid off all my camera gear and I've been contemplating moving into the Full frame world. I mostly shoot nature landscapes, city landscapes and a some occasional photoshoots for friends and family. I have to decide between a A7C ii with kit lens (28-60) or an A6700 with kit lens (18-135). Price is 400$ more for the full frame kit lens version compared to the APSC-kit version. So it's not a deal breaker. I read the 28-60 E for full frame is not that nice and A6700 had a fewer more bells and whistles in terms of specs.

Any advice on which one to pick would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I recently switched from Fuji to Sony, while I was at the store checking out cameras, I tried both the A6700 and the a7C II, took photos and videos of the same shot on both and I felt that the a7C II had better quality so I got it. Just a casual non-professional user experience.

AF is superb on both but tyhe a7C II will give you better low light performance and better bokeh (out of focus) shots/videos.

I started in aps-c, went to the A6400 and 18-135 and a couple more lenses. Then added the A7Riv and 28-200 and a couple more lenses there, too. Recently added an A6700 to get the "A7Rv" focus and several other features beyond the A6400.

The 28-60 is well spoken of, compact, etc. Since I had the aps-c gear, I didn't find the A7C all that much better. the A7Riv was full size, high res., etc., so a better step for me.

You can look to the reviews and specs to see differences between the A6700 and A7Cii. My impression is to really get the ff "advantages" one would need to move to better ff lenses. That's assuming the 28-60 isn't going to be the only lens for you. FF lenses will tend to be larger, heavier and more expensive. The more lower cost and weight are important to you, consider aps-c. If lower light and wider apertures are more important, consider the ff.

Thank you. I'm leaning that way too!

Thank you. All the points you mentioned are under my consideration too. Let's see what the final outcomes gonna be!

Cheers

Yes, but A6400 is significantly smaller than A6700.. and FF A7c bodies

A6400 has an advantage over the "compact" FF A7c bodies.. that the A6700 cannot claim

Depending on your needs the a6700/A7CII might be massively overkill, you're paying alot of money for that FX30/A7IV sensor considering you haven't mentioned video at all.

If you don't need 10 bit 4k60 video and/or insect/bird tracking the A7C or a6600 will give you similar performance for basicly half the money.

So you can get better glass than the kit lens and the lenses you have now, besides the Sigma 60 I would replace everything, it will make a bigger difference than 2 or even 9 extra megapixels IMO, this is coming from an a6400+A7IV user.

I understand the lure of the new models but it's not gonna be worth it to use with a 18-135 or 16 f2.8 pancake. So think it as about renewing everything rather than just a new video/hybrid body with a kit lens, that is my suggestion.

The sensor size choice should also be based on lenses, like what lenses do you really intend to use in the future, hopefully not the 18-200. You might find some (not all, but some) full frame lenses are way too big for your preference.

The A7CII doesn't have a full mechanical shutter (only electronic first curtain), the A6700 have it. So if you plan to do any high speed sync flash you need the A6700.

Thank you. Very nice analysis and suggestions. No, I have no interest in Video. "hopefully not the 18-200." That was my walk around lens for the focal lengths and convenience :-) It wasn't bad, got some nice shots over the years..

Cheers

Buy A7C II if you have extra budget for 20-70 F4G. Otherwise, go for A6700.

That's it.

I think the a6700 may well be the better camera if you process from raw, faster/more responsive and the evf has nice eye cup unlike the horrible hard shell of the a7c ii. In all honesty the lens options are very cool for aps-c now, more family friendly for sure!

My NEX6 is even smaller still. But that's also not what the OP asked about.
Hello Craig

What I meant is that the A6700 fails to benefit from the smaller sensor relative to its body size.. i.e. having the same body size as the A7c series is really not an achivement

It really depends on your use case. If you want to A7cII use only with 28-60, it seems as a waste to me. I would be tempted by eg. great 20-70f4. Or faster Sigma 28-70f2.8.

After a lot of research and useful suggestions from this forum, I went ahead and got a new A6700.

Thank you all.

Cheers

I've been using the A7C with HSS on Godox AD200Pro and v860iii just fine, apparently it depends on the flash unit.
