I have been interested in Infrared photography for many years. The last I did was with film, and it was a long time back. I have a spare Sony a7r II and I’m debating an IR conversion (or more likely full spectrum). However there’s enough info out there that it’s clear there’s a led inside that can spoil long exposure ir shots as well as some issues with the PDAF embedded points showing up in images as lines. Can anyone here shed more light on this? At what exposure level does it become an issue? How much of a problem does it pose in practical use?

For clarity: I’m primarily interested in b&w high contrast (850nm maybe) but full spectrum is likely as it allows me flexibility. Additionally I plan some use of my monster adapter with Pentax lenses on it at least for experimentation.

The best answer you're likely to get for this is what Kolari already says: that it can cause issues with high ISO long exposures, like those that might be used for astrophotography.

It sounds like, if your intended use is daylight IR shooting, you should be fine.
