The X100v hype pushing prices to crazy leves

Yes, great camera, but people paying between $1750-2200 US dollars for one in the used market makes me wonder if this could make Fuji put the brakes on the possible release of a new model.

Why bother with version VI if the current one is hotter than ever?

I guess we could blame Tiktokers for making Fuji the new Leica.
Hype has gone far beyond the X100V. Have you seen the prices for the X100F and even the original X100 that you could have purchased a year ago for around $350 is now selling for between $700 and $1000. The TikTok influence has even caused the prices for the early 2000s point and shoot / compact cameras to go up 500% or more. I'm laughing at the going price for the small Fuji EF-X20 flash. Some where between $400 and $700.
I should have never sold my X100 black Limited Edition 😡😡😡😡

Except that Fuji does not see any additional profit from inflated secondary market prices. Fuji makes the same profit wether X100Vs are going for MSRP or for 10x MSRP on the secondary market.
Agree. But that hype keeps the cameras flying off the shelves. I doubt there is a camera more desirable than the X100 between people who consume social media and want a camera to take pics and also feel trendy (not paid pros or real enthusiasts like many of us are).

Flying off the shelves sure but if it’s low volume due to supply issues it’s not making Fuji money. However it is building their brand as a premium brand.

Other Fuji cameras have gone to crazy prices, even the X-E series are significantly higher than they were 18 months ago. I've been looking at prices for months now thinking of picking one up but shaking my head at the prices. I just checked and I bought one for 409 bucks that was like new and low shutter count. They are routinely selling for 6-700 on eBay now.

The 27mm 2.8 used to be cheap also and it's going for ~300, I got mine NEW for like 179 or something.
The X100V has heled a lot the Fuji branding among people who are not serious enthusiasts.

And as I said before, a friend of mine with absolutely ZERO knowledge of photography, sensor sizes, specs, brands, etc, bought herself a new silver XE4 with the 27mm for $1500 just because she thought it looks awesome.

True, but their brand was built a while ago by this and others:

True and bling can be just about anything these days.

But in the right hands a camera can be part of a reputation:

Not to mention film cameras and vinyl records.

I can see the records, (if virgin), the x100v, and film: these can produce good results. But 3 MP p&s? Pure faddism and nostalgia. Crazy stuff. Still, it's a free country - but people spend too much time and attention on tiktok.

Megapixels don't don't mean that much. I stumbled upon this photographer's work with a 4 mp Canon G2 from the year 2001 that he's been using for over 5 years.

Fixed lens, and not even stabilized. Crazy! But hey, it's a free country, nobody's holding a gun to anybody's head.

Seems like a Ricoh GR III X would make more sense, but what do I know? 🤣
The fixed lens is a positive attribute. I’ve had compact cameras with zoom lenses. I chose the X100V as my second camera for several reasons, and in particular because of the fixed focal length.

Stabilization isn’t for every type of photo. Plus, if influencers are truly making the price go crazy it’s about fashion and hype more than photography.

I am aware I posted twice to make my points. 1. I think the video is responsible for some of the camera's demand which can increase price and 2. It is a camera not just used by amateurs as Foskito's post implied.

I would have no objections to that since I am looking at getting the Panasonic ZS100 or Canon GX 1 Mark III.

Goes to show, for many people, it's like any collectible, the purpose is to own it, not do anything with it.

If there was more production, then the used prices would absolutely crash at some point.

Yeah I'm guessing the X100V would be $1000 on the used market even with all the hype but the supply was ample. But then again much of the hype wouldn't exist if it were in stock everywhere so catch-22. So maybe $900.

What do you prefer about the fixed lens? IQ? Compactness? Creative challenge?

For that price you don’t have to pretend and get an M240 or M6 in mint condition.
