A few months ago I read that it was the end of the line for the LX series; anyone hear if that’s changed?

I'd be surprised if we see anything new. The mark II added much of what was missing from the first.

Does it need a longer lens? The first LX100 offered a radical new lens design that was touted as the beginning of a new era but we never saw another lens using that design and shouldn't expect one now.

A new sensor or perhaps better viewfinders are possible upgrades. What else might you need that the Mark II doesn't offer?

weather resistance and tilting monitor.

1/8000 shutter speed would be nice but not necessary

From one who owned the LX100, and upgraded to the LX100 II; for the LX100 II's price I would rate the LX100 M2 a "M1.5" for the LX100 II's price what IMO the "M2" should of had:

Environmental sealing—Panasonic provided environmental sealing for the FZ300, and the Powershot G1X III has environmental sealing. IMO the G1X III the main competitor to the LX100 II. The main reasons I bought the LX100 II (over the G1X II) were: LX100 II on-body controls/ design; faster max lens apertures; extra batteries/ uses same battery as ZS100; at time of purchase Panasonic had a $200 discount.

Viewfinder should had been of the OLED type as in other enthusiasts compacts; not the same OLD LX100's low-res, field sequential viewfinder.

Unlike the 'older' ZS100, LX100 II does not have a setting to disable 'only' the Touch AF; to disable Touch AF you have to disable "ALL" touch operations, :-x . Hence anytime you inadvertently touch the rear display the AF point moves. The only work around (other than disabling all touch operations) is to set the LVF/ Monitor to use Viewfinder display only.

As noted in the DPR LX100 II review the Auto ISO is fairly primitive.

For those that shoot video; from the DPR LX100 II Review: "... LX100 II crops-in to a 3840 x 2160 region of its sensor: a 1.34x crop, compared with the region it uses for 16:9 images. This has a number of downsides: it means you get a relatively zoomed-in ~32mm equivalent field of view, even at the lens's widest setting. But it also means you effectively use a 12.8 x 7.2mm sensor region: a fraction smaller than the 1" type chip in Sony's RX100 V. ...".

Yes, https://www.thestatesman.com/techno...act-digital-camera-production-1503097519.html

From the article: “We’ve halted developing any new models that can be replaced by a smartphone"

That include pretty everything that is not an ILC m43 or FF camera body/lens. The LX100 is in an interesting spot....yes, m43 sensor, compact, LX line, etc. I think it's a great option and would like to see them do a Mark III version, but I do suspect that the LX100 line's days are numbered. What I do see them "possibly" doing, is a full out LX100-like camera in FF to go head to head vs. the Fuji X100 line and against Sony. That could be interesting.

IMO that's a lame statement.

Any camera "can" be replaced for 'ALL' of those who just want the P&S simplicity and the good "OOC" IQ of smartphones.

Camera mfgs. are using smartphones a their "scapegoat" for their unwillingness/ inability(?) to make a compact P&S camera that the "Full Auto" (i.e., Pany "i.A") mode can match the OOC IQ of smartphones.

Grant smartphone has the edge with those that want/ need to share their daily activities on various social media sites—I don't.

For myself, no smartphone can truly replace "all" the features of my old S110; size, zoom lens focal length, etc. Or for newer/ little larger camera my ZS100.

My old Samsung S9 was having some issues. I replaced the S9 with the base "S22" because of its smaller size. To me the S22 Ultra and other similar ("Pro") smartphones are too large; kind of like using a small tablet.

I have a speculation, they'il release a new model, in pink.

But since speculation is only that, it would be safer to take panasonic's word for it and consider the series dead.

No big deal, just buy the existing models, they're still making them you know.

Nah; Pany should do like Leica, make a "Special Edition" and double the price. :-D
