The manual isn't the easiest to search and things have changed a lot from previous versions. I don't think I'm alone in wanting the answers now rather than in several weeks or months when I may stumble on them. So I though we could have a thread were new owners can get answers from the more experienced ones.

I'll start, but please, everyone feel free to add questions. But please create a new answer under this post with the problem you look for help with in the subject line so it gets easy to find for others.

OK, here goes. Hope others also think it's a good idea to collect basic information in one thread. And not so basic maybe. :-)

Two questions in one really.

The manual says I should hold the +/- down and turn the front wheel to adjust exposure compensation. But that's not needed at all. I can just turn the wheel.

One thing I notice is that the button toggles between using the wheel and the arrow buttons. Can I set it up in the menu so the wheel is always used? I don't want to use the arrow buttons. That way this button could be used for something more useful.

The other thing I notice is it toggles between displaying the focal length in the viewfinder and not displaying it. I want this always on but don't find anything about that in the manual.

I have always just turned the front dial for exposure compensation Charlotte. Of course, reading a manual is something I only revert to in extreme need!! I do try to follow instruction manuals for assembly of things though!

As to the focal length in the viewfinder, I have been missing that and was not aware that I could get it to display. In my other cameras it was just there when I adjusted it so when it was missing I assumed that was some bonehead's choice for a cleaner viewfinder. I will have to address that.

As far as the +/- buttons are concerned, there is some discussion of use for that with manual mode here

I found that button useless and I wanted the red dot button to be video like on my EM1.3 so I moved the HHHR function to that (I'd rather HHHR could just be under the shooting modes like it was on the EM1.3 but that doesn't seem possible).

I must have had the +/- button in the right mode when I reassigned it because the zoom focal length always shows up while I'm zooming. Are you wanting it to stay on all the time?

Took years before I found it could be turned on in the EM-1. Now I don't find that setting either! I've searched, because I thought it might be something similar in OM-1.

Thanks. I'll read that later when I'm not hungry. :-)

Yes, I want it on. I thought it maybe worked that way, that the mode that's on when you reassign the function of the button stays. But was scared to screw things up and I don't know what feature to put there either. Now I know I can get what I want. Thanks.

Thanks. I actually saw that the other day but I have no idea who the guy is and thought it was pricy for something home cooked.

Have you read it?

Nope

Exposure comp not needed for Aperture or Manual mode in normal use. However if you are in Aperture or Manual mode and using auto ISO then you need compensation.

Obviously not in Manual mode, but I use it all the time in A. How else do you adjust shutter speed ((and thereby change exposure)?

I don't get blinkies with my manual lenses. The grid also disappears. Why is that? Is there a setting for this, different than for auto lenses, or do I have to live with it?

Soon as I put an auto lens on those things are back, so I haven't accidentally turned them off.
