Anyone happen to have the Service Manual for the ZS70/TZ90?

I opened it and a tiny white ball fell out when opening the lens.

Can't figure out where it belongs. Wondering if the service manual says something about it.

Edit: Nevermind I found one.

This is the white ball, standard SD card for scale

I think it is part of the OIS Lens element.

I have broken mine apart because the flex cable was already broken so here's some pictures.

I assume it's something that guides that small Lens element on the bottom

Wow thanks for that that is absolutely fascinating! Honestly it's amazing that you noticed it I would have to have on readers to see that. My dad took apart a watch one time and made me watch him put it back together, it took a couple hours I think it was pretty fascinating I think I would have to have much stronger readers these days to reassemble your camera!

Thank you for sharing the photos!

I have used an endoscope to check those areas.

I also found an issue with the Zoom motor gears, one of the gears has some of the teeth broken and when the motor was running it was making a crunching sound

Yes I have seen that and one for the ZS100. The models from those videos seem to be much easier than the ZS40 to ZS70 which all seem to have the same lens and involve desoldering about 20 small solder points if you want to do it right.

Found where they belong.

This is within the OIS mechanism.

There are 3 of those balls and I assume they are there so that the OIS part can move freely.

My lens was already broken there but I assume this is unrepairable if one of those balls come out.

Here is a picture of the aperture mechanism.

I think it's quite interesting to see this kind of thing disassembled.

Hi Claude! I think it is fascinating and I applaud you for even being able to see those little bitty balls! I would have had to have 5x readers and I don't think they make those. I am glad you tinkered with it and shared the results I hope some other people look at it. Makes me feel like my camera is pretty fragile though :(

But all mechanical things are probably if you don't drop it it's fine!

Thanks!

Yes there are a lot of fragile components in these lenses.

I have repaired some Sony and Samsungs and the Samsung are built very well. Gave two of them (WB750 and WB150) to my five year olds and even after being dropped several times and once the lens pushed out of alignment I was able to push it back and they still work and they have a much better picture and screen quality as those $70 kids cameras for less than halve the price

Where did you find the service manual?

I have just seen this. I have taken my TZ30 and TZ70 apart for different reasons, but never the lens units. I also own the TZ90 which has the same lens unit as the TZ70. I have never had the need to dismantle/open the TZ90 for any reason yet! Same for my TZ100 which has been working fine.

Taking a camera apart is not for the faint hearted, and I hope I never need to open one of my cameras again. I am sure I downloaded a technical manual for one of the cameras, a few years ago, but I cannot remember where from. I also remember watching video from Graham Houghton YouTube channel,

What i can say, is the Lumix cameras I have disassembled, seem very similar.

Good luck in repairing your camera.

This is definitely handy. I ended up completely ruining my TZ90. I don't have the most masculine of hands but managed to rip the ribbon cable a bit, enough to tear through the first line of connector. Gave up after that. Was all my fault, I was trying to fix it all too quickly.

I'll replace the lens eventually but the cable I teared is technically a piece of another part (lens to PCB cable) that doesn't seem to come with the lens. So I'll need two parts now. I just bought another second one for cheap in the mean time. Be careful people!

This is an underrated camera, I feel like I should have it on me at all times because it's so versatile.
