Hi! I am rather new to photography and I sometimes shoot film with this pentax espio 115V. The battery recently died and I wanted to buy a new one. When I took it out and looked it up I could only find the 'brought' version of this battery. Can anyone tell me what I need to know about these older photo batteries?

The Espio 115V uses a regular C123A 3V battery:

Update: this site mentions the (slightly shorter CR2 3V battery

see also: https://www.microbattery.com/blog/p...thing-you-need-to-know-about-the-cr2-battery/

Are CR2 Batteries The Same As CR123A?

The CR2 battery is not the same as the CR123A battery. The CR2 battery is slightly shorter than the CR123A battery and will not fit in most applications that require a CR123A battery. In addition the CR123A battery will deliver on average about 50% more output than the CR2 battery, meaning that even if you did manage to seat a CR2 battery into a device that uses a CR123A, it would not be able deliver the full power required and your device will either function poorly or not at all. These batteries do share a few similarities in that they are both made using lithium manganese dioxide and they are both 3 volt batteries.

But his battery is a 6v battery. Apparently google didn't google well enough.
Google led me to the Espio's 115V's manual: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/66093798

which mentions a C123A

as does: https://www.ateliers-marinette.fr/en/analog-cameras/pentax-espio-115v-38mm-120mm.html

Conclusion: His 6V battery wasn't the correct one in the first place (and I doubt that camera ever worked with it)
OP said the camera worked

PS: his username should have led him to the right battery ;-)

I never said it didn't - but not with a Kodak 223 6V battery, as they are double the size of a 123 and look like https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/134916-REG/Kodak_8486243_223A_6v_Lithium_Battery.html

I'm guessing his is half of a 223, which are 2x 3V: https://www.batteries4pro.com/en/BA...ronic-faucet-crp2-type-223-4008496537242.html

What you have there is one cell taken apart from a 6v battery that had two 3v cells inside it,( 223 = 2x 123) just like you see in this photo (using the similar 2CR5 version) :

Note that each cell will have 2CR5 6v printed on the label.

You can see the 4 soldering points on the plus terminal of your battery :

"Update: this site mentions the (slightly shorter CR2 3V battery"

https://camerapedia.fandom.com/wiki/Pentax_Espio_115(M)/IQZoom_115(V)

Yes it does BUT for the Espio 115 M NOT the 115 V .
Yes, but the title of that page says "Pentax Espio 115(M)/IQZoom 115(V)" and the text "In the US it was called the IQZoom 115 with a revised version taking the V suffix", so wasn't clear (to me) if the latter used the same or another battery.
It becomes clear if you read the full text with the separate specs for each model.

I sold those cameras but I had to read the specs to be sure. Still the funny label (gap at the back and wrinkles at the bottom) as well as the obviously interfeered with top and the soldering points at the top of the OP battery told me what had happened.

To add.. that splitting has been done many times over the years. I cannot remember the difference in price between buying the 123 as a single cell compared with the double but it is possible that the 2 cell version was cheaper per cell or simply that the single was not at times available.
