Problem with FastStone Image Viewer

I now have the 5D MK IV.

When I had the 5D MK 3, I shot in RAW. Once I added the photos to my laptop I always put them on ‘FastStone Image Viewer’. Then I view and decide which photos to put on Lightroom to edit. All went well.

The problem I have now is doing the same thing with the 5D MK IV, the photos do NOT show on the ‘FastStone Image Viewer’, why?

Did you convert them to JPEG first, or did Faststone read the raw files directly? Note that most raw files have an embedded low-res JPEG, and it's possible that you were seeing that.

You may need to update Faststone viewer.

If the previous suggestions do not solve your problem, post a couple of screen captures that show the problem.

Make sure you have the latest version of FastStone. It displays my 5D IV .CR3 files properly. BTW, great culling program.

Can you properly see the RAW file thumbnails in Windows Explorer? If not, install the latest codec pack from Microsoft.

I use Faststone Image Viewer all the time; no problem with .cr2 or .cr3 files from a Canon 5Dmk4 and R5. You may need to post further info to try to diagnose your problem as other commenters have suggested.

Suddenly, my latest edition of Fastone image viewer (7.6) is failing to download photographs from a memory card. It goes right through the loading and selection process but when the import process is triggered it comes up with "Files failed to be transferred". I've checked the card readers and everything appears to be functioning. I'm using MS Windows 10.

Anyone else with this problem, or suggestions?

FastStone versions above 7.5 are 'dodgy'! I found this out when trying to use the slideshow option on version 7.6 - apparently it's a security risk?? creating an .exe file or something??

So I stick to version 7.5 and all seems ok?
