Good Morning Forum,

here's the #1 written Review, of the new TTArtisan 23mm F1.4 Lens for Fujifilm.

I already had preordered my lens before that review. Would arrive possible between mid jan 2022 to somehere into feb 2022 here...

This time, not from Jonas Rask, but from a person named Alwin Kok, with many sample pictures. He was using it with the Fujifilm X-T3 body.

TTArtisan 23mm F1.4 APS-C Review

Key facts:

MFD: 0.2m

10 Aperture blades

useable F1.4 open aperture

metal build, metal bajonet, metal lens cap

good IQ

" For the first time ever, I am happy with the image quality produced with the shots taken at f1.4 wide open. The result is sharp and has good contrast. Of course, the image quality improved further from f2 onwards, especially on the corners."

Conclusion

"I have used this lens for about 2 weeks and what TTArtisan does impress me with is its image and build quality. Its usable f1.4 gives me a taste of what it is like to have it on 23mm. This lens is totally enjoyable and easy to use. And also, this lens makes me look forward to the autofocus lens."

This is exactly what i've waited for, since my X-E1 back into the day. A small, nice & affordable 23/1.4, which doesn't cost an arm & a leg. For 99 bucks, it seems a steal, and into the line with the already great (for it's asking price) TTA Lenses like the 35/1.4, 50/1.2 and 17/1.4 lenses. Finally, a manual focus 23mm (35mm FF-equal) which is fast enough with F1.4 now. I'd use it for street, and everything else, i'd shoot usually with my 35mm SLR prime lenses, 35mm is my fave focal length.

PS: I have the unoffical info since yesterday, that the square metal lens hood for this 23/1.4 TTA lens into the YouTube video had being designed - but it's not currently avialable for preorder, it must being mass produced first, which takes a few weeks.

Good Light.

What youtube?

Had a look at those sample shots, 0.7Mpx possibly not much you can take from images this small. Maybe except for those dumplings??

Dunno. He also threw in a woman in a bathing suit, plus bikini in a what ... shopping centre?

Still I found the text interesting e.g. his observations regarding bokeh (needs to have large background and close-up focusing distance???) so possibly not for me regarding bokeh.

Not sharp at infinity??? Really? You need to "focus" back to get a sharp image? Might make after dark photography a bit odd to master? Plus barrel distortion. How much he didn't specify, but isn't this a 35mm? -ish?? The Fuji 23/1.4 has 0.26% so a hard one to top. But without much detail difficult to judge.

Who is this guy?

Thanks for linking anyway, the reason why I clicked on the link was that I had noticed this somewhat throwback to the 1960s - or whenever this particular lens design was around. I thought that if you come up with a design like this, the lens better be good ;-)

Found this on YouTube. Nice pics here. Overall looks like a very good lens.

I had posted this earlier, under the TTArtisan 23/1.4 Announcement Post from DPR. ;)

Yes, for <100 bucks, it does look very good. I am also way happy with my 35/1.4 APS-C TTA, although, 35mm (=52mm on FF) is not my fave focal length, but 35mm is. This 23/1.4 TTA is being preordered since some days here, it'll arrive 2022. ;)

Good Light.

Thanks for sharing. For some reason you link isn’t working for me but was able to find it.

See Richards Review here on YT:

DE TTArtisan 23mm f/1.4 Review (APSC/M43)

Richard Wong is like Christopher Frost a respected Lens Reviewer on YT.

Good Night.
Very good review, and an excellent lens.

TTArtisan has really improved flare control with this one. I'm surprised how popular their products have become. So much so, like larger manufacturers, they are having hard time fulfilling orders. They recently pushed the shipping dates of 23mm f5.6 Leica lens by two months due to overwhelming number of pre-orders. I hope all these sales translate into better QC and higher quality lenses from this company in future.

Reviews have been coming since the lens was released today or yesterday. Many shops at Aliexpress are selling it while Amazon and B&H have no stock yet. Interestingly Some stores have a dedicated hood option. Square hood. I am sorry for the design/mechanism by the way the hood is attached to the lens, though. It costs additional $10.

Is this reviewer saying they've never found any f/1.4 lens to be usable wide open? Seems like hyperbole to me. From personal use the rokinon 21 f/1.4 is quite good at max aperture, though more expensive.

I bought the hood friday on Aliexpress - the Lens is paid since last week. ;) It should arrive on 4th Jan. 2022 here - but i know, the Shipping dates could vary, like usual. It's only a guessing from Aliexpress.

I don't care about the extreme edges, i stop down to F/8, when i need good corner sharpness with every lens, and F1.4 is useable, according to Robin Wong, center sharpness good at F1.4 - for avialable light, or night photography, i do always prefer to have F1.4, instead of just an F2.8 Lens, for this task, the Lens is perfect. I paid 97 EUR with free shipping from Asia.

The past 5-7 years, i wanted always a fast 23mm prime, as Fuji XF 23/1.4 R alternative - but unfortunately, it was nothing there. TTArtisan to the rescue. I am happy with my 35/1.4 TTA which i bought into 2020 right after release via Aliexpress for 57 EUR. Now this time, it's the 23/1.4 TTA.

Did i mention, that the 10-blade Sunstars at F5.6-8 are especially beautiful with this lens? Robin Wongs video does show i, which i posted before. The Lens is great for night photography.

PS: I see, Damien Brown made now his own YT Review - nice, he wrote that earlier on SAR, and he was right, the Lens price about 99 bucks as answer about my price question. :)

Good Light, a fine sunday.

marc, what about the Viltrox 23mm f1.4, did you consider that one?

Here is one more review, but nothing new.

When you get the lens, would you compare the images between f/1.4 and f/2.0? I have a lens of f/2.0 already. So, I would like to know the difference, which might help me determine whether I buy it or not.

marc, what about the Viltrox 23mm f1.4, did you consider that one?
I wrote you in PM, but you never answer. I dislike non-clickstops, i dislike a generic Lens barrel (ordinary) design, i dislike big APS-C lenses...and especially, i dislike the CAs, that Viltrox "creates", i had more hopes for this particular Lens, before it was being released. So no, it's not a Lens for myself. But eitherway, the TTA 23/1.4, and/or the original Fuji XF 23/1.4 R prime.

And i know since this Summer from Fujirumors, that this TTA 23/1.4 manual focus lens would come.

Its preordered, since last week, i had a info from a friendly store. It came to orginally release onto last friday, exactly. On last friday (10.12.2022) it was also being released on Aliexpress. And that's the place whereas i always buy my TTartisan & 7Artisan Lenses.

Just for the record, i paid 106 EUR with Lens Hood. Zebra version. (silver-black). Earlier this year, i got a 50% discount for the fine 7Artisans 35mm F1.4 M-Mount Wen Lens, and paid 168 EUR only, that offer was 48h only. This Lens is really better, sharper, better microcontrast, than the TTA 35/1.4 M-Mount version. 1:1 Samples can being seen via ErickPhoto on YouTube.

Sorry, I just did. But that 35mm WEN is also very long and heavy, that's why I have been reluctant in getting one for my Leica M9. Voigtlander have the 35mm f1.4ii which is half the size and weight, and for $650 dlls...

Some lens manufacturers often released cheap lenses.
TArtisan 23mm F1.4 APS-C is sold at only $99. I cannot believe it. I think that it is a good choice in this challenging year. The cheap lens may meet my needs. I found a helpful post about this lens.
