A9 VS A9II AF?

Is there any difference? Is there any noticable difference between the two?
There are subtle but noticeable improvements in the a9 II. The external improvements to the Mark II body like the larger AF button and joystick make interacting with the AF system easier. The a9 II allows you to set the AF indicator box color to red so its easier to see in many situations. So even if you consider the internal AF systems equivalent, the a9 II makes the AF system more user friendly. As fast as the original a9 is, the Mark II is actually faster due to the improved processing hardware. The original a9 is still extremely effective and I cannot imagine any situation where the camera itself would be the limiting factor in capturing an image. But the a9 II does have some improvements that you may notice especially in extreme situations like very long tracking bursts.

Just wanted to add that A9mkI also has possibility for a red AF Box.
Yes indeed, and to his other remarks I don't believe my A9i is a "limiting factor" either ... I have shot swallows on the wing with mine that I could barely keep in the frame.

The limiting factor is always behind the camera with any A9 ;)

I shot both for years and couldn't notice any difference in AF or operational speed.

The first A9 is still noticebly better than A7RIV in af?
Yes, the a9 is a different beast. The a7RIV has some improvements in AF over the a7RIII. But the a7RIII firmware updates have significantly improved its performance since the original release. The a9 is simply in a different league when shooting any moving subject. It does everything faster. That's what it is designed for.

I agree completely, I bought my A7RIV brand new and compared to my old A99ii it blew my socks off, but I then bought a used A9 to supplement my A7RIV and the autofocus and low light performance are significantly better on the A9. I use the two cameras for different things now (A7RIV for portraiture and A9 for low light and fast moving subjects). I'm hoping to add a used A9ii or A1 to my collection shortly.
