I purchase a Neewer LP-E6NH pack with two batteries and charger 7 months ago through Amazon. It has had very light use, about a couple of times a month. The charger stopped working, and my iMac indicated it was drawing too much power, and shut other USB devices off until this was unplugged. I tried connecting thru an apple wall to USB and neither the red nor the green lights lit nor did the battery charge. With the canon charger, one of the batteries worked, the other slept.

I emailed Neewer support, and their initial response was:

"In order to keep prices low and deliver our product to you quickly, we don’t have physical stores which would allow us to examine a product with a defect. With this in mind, we would be grateful if you could send by return a short video (or some photos if this illustrates the fault sufficiently). This is a pre-requisite for all warranty claims within the 12-month period and helps us to address recurrent issues internally with our QA team and explore your issue with our technicians. For more information, please visit www.neewer.com/warranty"

So I sent them a couple of photographs, with the charger plugged in, and battery in it. Their next response was:

"Thanks for getting back to us. Can you please send us a video presenting the problem in detail so our Tech Department can quickly and easily identify the issue and offer you a timely solution?

After we confirm the issue, we will offer you replacement batteries or offer other solutions."

At this point I gave up, it was not worth the effort to jump through hoops over a 60 dollar product and a video would not reveal much unless the I could make the batteries dance.

Lesson learnt, stay with Canon batteries.

Are you sure the USB port on the wall charger put out the required 2.1 amps for the battery charger? I don't know anything about iMacs, but maybe the draw the battery charger wanted was more than the laptop was designed for.

There was no laptop involved. I tried several ways, a hub, iMac port, another hub and the apple wall to usb converter. The first three had always worked for several months.

Did you send themna video has they requested in the second email? Seems pretty easy to tke five minutes and create a video showing the problem. A few pictures would be hard to see the problem.

Well, IMO, asking for a video surpasses the ridiculous.

I too have this Neewer. So far, so good. But sorry to hear of the lack of warranty support.

They are just trying to wear you down and, apparently, have been successful.

The OP felt that photos "illustrate the fault sufficiently". But this was not acceptable to Neewer.

I am sorry to say, but that would be my conclusion also. In saying that, I think that there are other battery manufacturers whose products and warranties can be relied upon; but clearly, not Neewer.

I shall myself avoid Neewer products in future.

Call Amazon, be Polite, explain the situation.. They will credit your account..

What exact Neewer charger did you use?

Thanks.

That's a slightly different Neewer charger than I have. I don't have Neewer batteries.

I disagree, what I would find ridiculous would be if they expected me to hunt for/locate a place to host the video on the internet to submit a link rather than providing the ability to upload directly to support.

As much as I hate the trend myself, video is the norm for most consumers - see the rapid changes in most platforms to respond to Tic Tok's popularity.

I don't think this is isolated to Neewer, but pretty much all off-brand batteries.

I gave up with 3rd party brand batteries back in my D60 days when Hahnnel (sp?) batteries I was sold gave up after a few months while the Canon ones worked for a long time afterwards. Only Canon battery that failed was the one supplied with my DsIII, but I was overseas and had to get another one - thankfully I found a real one (sealed, in proper Canon packaging) after some hunting and not looked back.

I have used off-brand chargers, mostly for convenience, and those have generally been OK but I am willing to believe the same quality issues there.

I recall reading (on battery University I think) that the LiIon cells were graded on manufactur and that the main brands nought the premium ones while the lower grades were sold to the 3rd party makers - which can explain the quality issues. This was years ago however, so it's probably got more diverse and also worse since.

FWIW, I've used SterlingTek batteries successfully in every one of my Canon APS-C bodies (D30, 10D, 30D, 50D, 70D, 70D, 7D, and 7D II) with no issues. I have not tried any 3rd party batteries with my R6 yet, as there weren't many well-reviewed choices available when I got it.

Of you bought your battery from Amazon, it's Amazon you have a contract with and Amazon you deal with.

I sorry for your bad luck with the dural charge but Amazon may be better way. I bought four Newer batteries almost a year ago which included two chargers. They all work fine. Bad ones happen. The charger is pretty simple so it is a little surprising. I plug my dual into a USB android phone charge with good results. Bad luck happens and Neewer warranty service was not good. Have a chat with Amazon support I have had good luck with them. Even without the charger the Neewer batteries are much cheaper and do work well, and close to the Canon batteries.

It’s unfortunate you’ve had this problem. I purchased the same Neewer product with the two batteries and dual charger a few months ago. I’ve been using them daily in my R5 without any problems. I have also used several other brands of batteries in my XSI, T3i, 7D II, 5d III, and 5d IV for more than a dozen years without any problems. I fully appreciate the top quality of the Canon bodies and several lenses I’ve enjoyed for years, but I find the other batteries to work just fine. Guess I’ve been lucky so far.

I find the Canon battteries to be better and I generallly have purchased two of each generation but Iike to have six so for them that will be in critical situations I buy Neewer and others with or without their includedchargers. I have found the Neewer currently to be best for battery lifetime for my R5 after the Canon brand which seem to last 5-10% longer.

I think it is a pretty reasonable request. Newer is trying to save costs. Before they replace the batteries they want to understand and see the issue. They probably should have not said pictures or video. I don't see the point in pictures.

I guess they could have asked the OP to send the batteries back for testing and review before replacing them. I thnik a video is a much faster way to see the problem. I don't see why this is unreasonable.

I have two newer batteries, but more for emergencies. I have 3 Canon batteries that are my main batteries for my R5.
