Hello

The SONY alpha series can work with the enhanced SD card. Can the same card slot take XQD cards and will the A7 R 4 work with them?

THanks.

No, Sony cameras do not use XQD.

The A7RIV has Dual SD card slots are both UHS-II-rated for faster performance.

The newer A1 uses PCIexpress Type A. It is the Type B that Nikon uses that is also compatible with XQD (if the camera supports that). The Type A Sony is using right now has very low capacities available and high pricing... 160GB is the largest and costs $400USD or $520 CAD. They are slower but smaller than an SD card.

The CFexpress Type A cards are quite a bit thicker than SD cards, but not as wide or long. They are a lot faster than an SD card - the fastest SD cards I have are 299 MB/s write, but the CFexpress Type A cards are 700 Mb/s write.

CFexpress Type B cards, used in a number of non-Sony cameras, are bigger, and faster still (something like 1700 MB/s write?).

The Sony cameras which accept Type A are the A1 and the A7S III.

As you said, there are no Sony cameras which use XQD.
