I've seen the EDU discounts for Sony gear often. The a6400 has often been on an EDU special over the past few months. I don't know if the a6600 has been on special because I haven't searched for it. I don't know of any way to be alerted to them. I do get some random EDU deal emails but they are not very useful.

Current EDU pricing: $808 body only, $898 with 16-50 kit lens, $1168 with 18-135. 10% savings - not huge, but better than nothing.

There is usually almost always some sort of EDU discount but they vary widely.

At some point the a6600 was like $918 with the EDU discount. It’s much more right now.
Same with lenses, I’m waiting on one of the better sales/EDU discounts to get a sel70350g, but right now the EDU sales are not that great.

November is a good time, not sure if spring brings similar low prices at some point :/

I got into the Adorama and BH EDU programs and Adorama has the 6400 for $1168 with the 18-135mm as Shiny Object posted. I understand there's the possibility of an additional 10% off with Alpha Universe Student rebate. Still trying to navigate the prices.

On the topic of EDU discounts, if Adorama offers 10% off now, will my membership at Alpha Universe (still in process) provide an additional (stacked) discount? Or is it one or the other?

Got accepted into the Sony Alpha Universe program, but I am not clear if it's 10% off or some cash amount.

Adorama still has the 10% discount and BH has no student discount at the moment.

I am not in a rush to buy, but I hope that a better deal comes along soon. The problem is that I continue to "shop" and the Fuji X-s10 starts to look good, then the 7c starts to look good. The 6400/6600 starts to look like an old platform. Ugh. Then I realize that any of these cameras are worlds beyond the smartphone I am using now. For me, pulling the trigger and just getting past the shopping phase can be a good thing!

Just to share, I've learned that the Alpha Universe discount is 10% and it "stacks" on top of the retailer's EDU discount. From Adorama at the moment, that's a total of 20% off.

Not bad, but I have time to wait to see if Sony and/or retailers offer something better, as they have in the past.

I've done extensive researching on the specific camera I want and have gone from Sony to Fuji back to Sony, and across models from those companies. Based on my perceived value, right now I'd buy the Sony A6400 (A6600 a close second) with the 18/135 kit lens and the Sigma 16mm 1.4 to have a prime in the mix. I could get that gear now for $1500, which for me doesn't push my budget too far. If a better sale comes along in the next couple of weeks, I might spring for the A6600.

In the mean time, I am watching the EDU discounts at Adorama and BH hoping for the best.

By "stacking" I meant that you can benefit from both discounts - one doesn't obviate the other. The retailer EDU discount is up-front at time of purchase. The Alpha Universe discount is the rebate code you received when you joined AU. It takes 2 weeks, reportedly, and you'll receive 10% from that.

ATM, for me, BH still is not offering much of an EDU discount, and Adorama is 10% on most things. Combined (stacked) I'd get 20% now if I pulled the trigger.

Does that make sense?

When I applied, I needed to provide verification of student status. Sony take a day/two to verify you, then sends you a Welcome email from Sony's EDU community with your rebate code. Did you go through the verification process?

I got the code! Ok so it’s a rebate code that allows to get a Visa card with the 10%. What I’m not sure is whether you can get other codes to buy other items or you can only get a code one time.

I emailed them to ask and they said they’re looking at the possibility of sending another code on your edu anniversary.
