Hi guys!

New to this forum and I just recieved my R6 a few days ago. I really like the camera so far but I find one thing very disappointing:

As I understand it, the camera has three status levels for the drive modes, according to this:

Drive mode icon colours
A mode: Green
B mode: White
C mode: Blinking in white

I understand that the green A mode (12 fps) is reserved for certain lenses, listed by Canon but I don´t see why I can´t even get B mode (9.2 fps) with any of my lenses. Only C mode (6.8 fps) with EF 300/4L IS USM, EF 70-200/4L USM, EF 24-105/4L IS USM etc...

That is really not what I expected since I got 10 fps with all lenses with the 7D mkII I had before.

Thoughts on this?

Is it the same with full battery and do your lens have the latest firmware?

it's Canon choice, but you can always get 20fps with old EF Lenses (electronic shutter), B mode it's with low battery

Ah, so you mean that with a full battery it´s either A mode (for compatible lenses) or C mode (for other lenses)? That the B mode is only for the compatible lenses, when battery is low?

Yeah, I know that 20 fps electronic works but the amount of images... ;-)

Is it the same with full battery and do your lens have the latest firmware?
Yes, battery is full, temperature is OK, lens is wide open, shutterspeed over 1/1000 etc.

Hmm, I didn´t know lenses had firmware... how do I check and/or update that?

To see the lens firmware version, in the camera menu, under the wrench icon, select firmware: it will then show you the camera firmware and the lens firmware.

To check the latest lens firmware, look up the specific lens on the Canon website and select drivers and downloads then select firmware. When you download the firmware file, it will come with instructions on how to update the lens firmware. The 24-105 mark I for example doesn't have any firmware but the mark II does.

Based on what the others have said it might not help specifically with achieving mode B.

Check the section on Drive mode in your advanced user guide for the R6. I have the R5 and assume the requirements are the same or similar. There is a list of EF lenses which will support 12 fps at the end of the advanced user guide, possibly with a FW update.

Check that your body and lens both have the latest FW

Anti flicker off

WiFi off

Max aperture for the lens in use

Shutter speed faster than 1/1000

Full mechanical shutter or EFCS (20fps with E-shutter)

That should work, if not try switching off all NR, all HDR, all lens corrections, and bluetooth.

I save all my sport/action high speed drive settings to one of the Custom shooting modes.

When you get it, the green H+ symbol is only seen in the EVF not the monitor
