Compact rumors?

It is a dirty battle that smartphones fight. They are expensive but you can get the latest and greatest and easily pay for it over the next 2 years with your phone bill. That eases the pain on spending 1000€ for a new device.

If you look closely the smartphones camera is one big selling point of smartphones. You might forget that you can call people with a smartphone so many time you spend with browsing, chatting and taking photos with it.

I think there is a market for fixed lens cameras. First as a second body for ILC owners. Second as travel assistent for smartphone users. There is space left next to smartphones. Look at GoPro, Olympus rugged or the retro Fuji X100.

My wishlist?
  • a Fuji X100V with a medium format sensor.
  • a Ricoh GR style body with a Foveon sensor.
  • A small FF / APSH / APSC body with a F1.x normal lens, fast AF, good video
  • a really pocketable (max 35mm depth) zoom compact with >200mm tele end and <F16 equivalent.
To build a pocketable camera ergonomics are the key. The body has to slip in and out of a pocket. I struggle with most 1“ bodies since they are to thick and the lens makes it hard to get it out if a jeans pocket. I accidentialy turn on the cameras within the pocket because it is fighting with me and doesn‘t want to be taken out. It would be easy to change this in the design stage. But that would require R&D.
