The photo store just called me and it is in!

I was expecting to wait for quite some time due to backorders.

:)

I still have the VR2 and will compare them briefly tonight.

(ordered it at Mattsons Foto, Lund, Sweden)

Knew very little about photography when I decided to buy the awesome Nikon D70; learned quickly that this expensive camera didn't make me a good photographer.

On my way home now but already I must say that it seems incredibly sharp and the VR appears to be very, very good, I just took a handheld shot 1/8s and it looks tack sharp at 200mm.

Any thoughts to picking up the 2xTC?

I'll get hands on mine tomorrow. Can't wait!

Same here. Dealer called, it is in, and I'll pick it up tonight @ CoB.

TC 2x is on Order as well. My own little 140-400 (@F5.6, mind you). So....not exactly 180-400mm F-Mount territory but I'm only giving up 1 F-Stop, get additional 40mm at the lower end, and hopefully a reasonable good IQ for ~7K less than the F-Mount Version (if initial reports are to be believed). We'll see in a few days; I have already set up a "play date" w/ a fellow photo friend at a local pond. He brings the D4s and 600mm F4 and we see what the results are. Both w/ full Gitzo and Wimberly head to have somewhat comparable conditions.

Can't wait either.

So lucky !
Enjoy your new piece of gear ^^
(I still have my Sigma 70-200 f2.8 Sport for my Z6 and can't afford this bad boy ^^'.)

OK, picked it up in the last daylight here in Europe, mounted it straight away and took some initial test shots. Attached. Sharing for first impressions (OOC JPEGs, scaled down to 4K). Don't mind artistic composition, they are all shot wide open for my first test. I'll have more time on the weekend and will give it a real go.

Initial impression: it is sharp, sharp, sharp even wide open.

It's evident that the lens is very sharp at close focus distance even wide open, I will look into how this translates when using close-up filters and extenders.

One thing that I immediately took a disliking to however was that the zoom ring is at the end of the lens, when using the lens hood (I don't normally do) inverted it covers the zoom ring.. very annoying.

Thanks , if I have enough time today I will make a comparision between the 70-200 2.8 VR2 and this new lens. With extenders and close up filters on and off.
Also it would be great if you can test an object around 20M distance at 70 and 200mmm. Thanks.

So jealous! I spoke to WEX in the UK and they still have not received any stock. Has anybody in the UK received theirs yet... can’t wait anymore.

Mine arrived yesterday. But it had been on order (with Grays) since 7th January... ;-)
