R5 overheats taking photos with reduced quality

I have the R5 and will keep it. I have never seen in a very long time all the negativity like this on any camera. I’m sure this propaganda will for sure have folks send their camera back, cancel their order or just plain not even order it now.

If this camera is a failure this will be the 1st time for me since the AE1,A1 the 10D and later this would happen.

What a shame..........

The R got beat up pretty bad, the R5 is taking some shots but I think the noise will be canceled out once results start to show up.

Then we all get to be subjected to the "Why I am switching to the R5" videos in 6 months...

I have never been one to give in to conspiracy theories easily, but the thought that some people are being paid to destroy the camera’s reputation is becoming more and more believable. I am not denying that the camera has limitations when it comes to the highest quality video recording, but this latest post is really getting out of hand. I guess misinformation transcends political arenas now.
It's just now the Internet has become over the passage of time.

Being terrible online isn't a new thing. People hide behind pseudonyms on the Internet for the longest time, but ever since being blatantly terrible towards other people became mainstream in real life, that naturally loops back and amplifies and legitimizes the online terribleness.

Even taking stills the R5 overheats reducing still image quality. Its states in the manual. I guess DSLR's aren't dead yet!

Give us all a break from this over paranoia. The manual makes a note that stills may produce an overheat indication, not that they caused the overheating.

Picture, if you will, running 8K Video and getting the overheat condition, then switching to stills, thinking that if you do so, the still shots will be OK. You'd be wrong and at the same time, the camera should indicate an overheat condition when trying to take the still shots when it has gotten overheated shooting video.

Also, there is no indication of ambient temperatures that might cause still shot overheating. Shooting photos of a lava lake inside an active volcano might well do the trick.

You haven't told us anything except that you have a reactive personality with no tendency toward disciplined evaluative thought processes.
that must be why they say: if all else fails, read the manual :-D

the sky is blue and water is wet. Quit posting trash like this. Your cpu runs slower when hot.

i am glad you figured out those words of wisdom, i knew you would sooner or later!

i don't remember posting "trash", are you feeling alright?

My car came with a [Check Engine] light. That must mean that the engine is defective. :-)
Yes. But that defect can be fixed with a piece of black tape.

it may.

say if you are in 120F in direct sunlight. and sat your camera out all day in the sun.

The thing may show a temperature warning.

it never said that taking stills in a normal environment would cause overheating.

How much degradation is there if you max out 8k video?

Maybe a nice controlled test for DPR to do.

I have a manual with my motorcycle that says, when you turn the throttle towards you

the motorbike will accelerate.

And when you apply the brakes it will decelerate .

This is all to prevent lawsuits from people who don,t know what they do.

Oh yeah I read once in a manual off my microwave that you can't dry cats and dogs

and other animals in them.

You've seen that pattern too ? It's always the same people, recommending the same brand.... Canon bashing and micro four thirds bashing has always been a thing. It's always the same 5 channels on youtube. They bash the camera for being incapable but it's always user error. Sabotaged user error. That one big youtube channel review of Fuji XT4 and Canon R5 is hilarious, full of user error and they blame the camera.

Exactly the same statement is made in the manual for the EOS R.

If a camera gets too hot it can affect image quality and it warns you about it.

So nothing new.

You must have misunderstood you microwaves manual because you can easily dry cats and dogs in them provided they are small enough to fit.Gerbils, hamsters, budgies no problem though.

True but the R5 does get the red warning after one hour of taking 30 pics as illustrated by Gerald Undone.

Probably does infact. Does your car breakdown every 20 miles every time you use it? I've not seen an engine check light on any of my vehicles for years.

Not sure why you fanboys are accepting this defect. Raise a stink, get it recalled and get a proper heat sink in there.
