GF 30mm is now available for preorder

I’m waiting to see if Jim Kasson gets one... interested in his comparison vs wide end of the 32-64
I’m first in line at my dealer.
I hate to be the rat, but I just alerted all the Vice Squads up and down the California coast. Jim … send a middle-man. Do not approach the dealer on your own....

Fly to Denver....

How did I miss this? I just saw it. 30mm.... That is what???? Ughhhh …. let me get my slide rule out….

That is 24 right? Hell yes. I want me some prime 24 steak.

How much is it?

I just bought the 120 from a friend on the board here today and I need to wait a couple of weeks....
I'm near on the top of the pre-order list at B&H -- will take some landscape photos as soon as it arrives to hold you over :)

This is outrageous! Why has there been so little discussion about this? I just saw it. I didn't know about no 30mm GF lens!

I'm calling Fuji and B&H now and one of you boys is about to get bumped.

Good luck! My cousin is a B&H sales rep xD

In the meantime, check out jonas rask's review:

Greg, you can see the GF lens roadmap here: https://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/gfx/roadmap/index.html

You will note the distinct absence of any tilt/shift lenses. This is the outrageous part.

With all that guvment money coming your way each month? :)

I pre-ordered one late in the day it was announced.

Now I have to decide if I want it, or cancel the order. Looking at the price history of other lenses, it seems Fuji has a sale about 7 months after launch. Is the saving worth the wait? I'm leaning to "I want it now".

Well, we have all been there. You know Fuji. There is little doubt that the leans will be 300 bucks off a couple of times a year. But that won't be for a few months.

There have been a couple of lenses that Fuji have steeply discounted that went far beyond the normal sales. I bought the XF 8-16 for 2 grand when it came out. That was a very expensive lens for Fuji X. Within a couple of months it was selling for 500 and then 600 off.

My recent purchase of the non-pancake 50 was the same big discount - half off.

I doubt if that happens with the 30, but no one ever really knows.

Camera and lens prices right now are a very interesting thing.

Just placed my order at B&H suckas at 1:30 am. I should be good for the first wave.
What content will you shoot with a 30 mm lens on 44:33 ? Serious question.

I have an ongoing itch for both a 28mm and a 300 PF f4 (on FF 35mm) and to save my life I can't come up with a legitimate use for either that will make me a buck, or any certainty that by using the new lens instead of what I own, it will afford better IQ than I routinely obtain from my kit now. I rarely shoot the big picture to justify the 28 and I never need to shoot from way over there and benefit from the 300mm reach.

I bought a 45mm for my 67 because it was there and I did not own it and it turned out to be useless. Sharpe, lovely color , just mangled people. D'oh.

DenWil,

I am baffled by your post. You are an old pro. Yet you have failed to grasp the concept of new GF lens buying.

There is a new GF 30mm lens. We want it, so we buy it.

It's that simple. We don't care if there is nothing to shoot with it. We will find something to shoot with it. What do you mean there is nothing to shoot with it?

There have been lots of times I was shooting my Q2 at 28 and wish I had wider at say, 24....

I guarantee you that the first day I have that lens I will shoot 150 shots with it. And I bet 2 or 3 of them are going to be good. Come on … you can see in 24 equiv FOV. You like 28. 24 will be OK. There is lots of good chit to shoot at 24. Who wants to shoot people anyway? 😎

Maybe I am reading your post wrong. By the way, what the Hell is a 67? I'm missing out on the lingo here.

What the Hell is wrong with the 45? That is one of the best GF lenses. What is that 67 that you stuck it on? You sound like Jim talking about some old classic large format camera and the weird and expensive vintage glass that these old war horses adapt to GFX - lenses I have never heard of. Teach me.....

I'm not a pro, but I expect I'll shoot the same things I shoot with a lens of the same angle of view on other formats. (24 for 35mm, 12 for micro4.3rds). I don't see what the format (44:33) has to do with what you'll shoot with it.

It's the angle of view I shoot with most (16.9%). That's possibly because it's the short end of my standard zoom, but I looked over the shots I've taken with that and shorter focal lengths and they're either the really short end of my ultra-wide zoom, or I'm happy with the 30mm angle of view.

Now I'm not intending to use the GFX in the same manner as my usual camera so I'm not sure if that applies, but it is a focal length I wouldn't want to be without.

6x7 cm negative. 10 exposures on a roll of 120 film or 20 exposures on a roll of 220 film.

God I am embarrassed.... I knew that! 6x7....

OK.

But why does the 45 suk when stuck on the 67?

I thought we liked the 45....

He's talking about a different 45. The GFX 45 won't cover 6x7.

I give up. I can't possibly ever learn all that old gear you pros used in large and MF film days.

So I have no idea what anything Wil said meant and everything I said back to him was utter nonsense... Well, except the part about how we can't shoot anything with the new 30. That I don't get, but maybe he was talking about adapting it to some weird old camera..... I don't know. Who knows? So few ever could understand.... So few.... An elite crowd of old warriors.

Jim, you were so gentle on me.

You just feel sorry for me today.... 😥

I expect to select this lens in those situations where I'm currently debating whether I should take my GF 23 or 45 but don`t want to carry both. Probably mostly for landscapes but it's applicable to other situations. For example, combo including GF 30 and 50 with 50R is fairly small MF package that can cover a lot of ground for all kinds of shooting.

I like it. I take the 23, 30, 45 and maybe the non-pancake 50. Then maybe stuff in the 120 which is being mailed to me right now.

But no.... I leave them at home and just take the 23, 32-64 and 45-100.

I can't decide what to do.

I just made my historic 10,000th post on DPR.

DenWil shoots mostly portraits so yes, 20- 24 mm is a pretty much useless range for portraiture. 28 mm can be used for environmental portraiture, but I prefer 35-40 mm as the distortion is minimal.

One of the best Medium Format negative size ;-)

Different format. The GF sensor is small compared to the 6x7 format. Basically, 44x33 (mm) vs 70x60 (mm). The GF45 is equivalent to ca. 35 mm, a 45 mm on a Mamiya 67 will be equivalent to about 23 mm, which is not very usefull for portraiture.

I am glad Fuji got a GF 30 mm within the lens lineup, but I have zero interest for it...

56 × 67 mm, but 6x7 is easier to say, Similarly, 6x6 is 56 x 56.
