I've had a rapid transition of gear since I bought my Slingshot Edge 250 AW back in June. At the time I had a Rebel T6i, kit lenses 18-55 and 55-250 and the Canon 24-70L f2.8 MkII. It fit the gear well, though the side pockets were showing a bit of encroachment with the 24-70 mounted on the body or stuffed along the side. While the dividers move...the available velcro could be more distributed to offer more combinations. Overall, few complains. Then I started to get more gear....

It started with a Canon 100-400L I, which strained the camera compartment. With the 100-400 mounted the width of the bag was noticeably tight and with either the 24-70L or 100-400 mounted the other lens had to be stored in the top catch all pouch as there wasn't enough room in the camera compartment. At least I no longer carried the kit lenses. What was already straining the bag's abilities got worse with moving to a 90D and the addition of a Canon 70-200L f2.8 III.

While the zippered door can close with the 90D and 100-400, the 90D and 70-200 just won't fit.

(thanks for reading this far)

I'm looking to upgrade bags, requirements would be to fit the following gear with one lens on body always:
  • EOS 90D
  • Canon 70-200L f2.8 III or 100-400L I
  • Canon 24-70L f2.8 II
  • Canon 10-18 (not yet owned)
  • water bottle
  • monopod/tripod
Thus far I know I like the single strap design of the Slingshot, ideal bag would be a 350/450 model of the bag (though they don't make it). I don't care about tablets or computer pockets (would get used for lens cloth, batteries, etc). Use would be day trip, short exploration or walking an event.

Top contenders seem to be the MindShift PhotoCross 13 and Thinktank TurnStyle 20 [though TurnStyle is missing the last two bullet points].

Feedback on these or am I missing other single shoulder bags with enough size?

With that amount of weight to carry a sling bag would put quite a strain on one shoulder. Have you looked at the Lowepro Fastpack series ? They are side access backpacks that are good compromise between a sling and backpack.

Part of my difficulty of finding options seems IMO to be the term sling. I think of a sling being a one strap cross chest backpack. Not like the one shoulder messenger bag I use for work.

The weight/comfort of my 90D, 24-70 and 100-400 has been fine, not in my list of concerns. I might have even stuck out the poor placement of the gear in the bag were the 90D w/ 70-200 mounted fit in the side access camera pocket.

Slings can be pretty heavy over one shoulder - not sure if they are still around, but Kata made a bag/sling that could be left or right or both, and I found that to be the better sling option - liked it better than slings from lowepro and think tank (I have at least 1 from each...)

I've decided on a MindShift Gear Photocross 13 sling.

I was initially worried that the bag would be a bit tight, the EOS 90D with mounted 70-200 2.8 is a good size, but found that I was able to setup the dividers to with relative ease fits with my 24-70 also in the bag.

I positioned one of the large vertical dividers at the top (right of compartment) to find an unmounted lens, and a small set of dividers as a box to the left to support the mounted lens when the body was to the bottom (left of the compartment). The 90D with 70-200 comes in/out with minimal effort tiling the body to slide in first when dropping it back in.

I haven't had a chance to carry it for long with much weight, but the packed back with body and two lenses did not feel heavy or pull even though the strap is thinner than the Lowepro bag.

I'll add some pictures later.

I've got two of those Kata bags and they are really good. Now that Kata has merged with Manfrotto, these bags have been updated and are sold as Manfrotto such as this one:

so that's what happened to Kata!

that bag looks pretty sharp!

I have their old 3N1-22 and 3N1-33, and they still are holding together very well!
I've got the 3-in-1 20 and the 3-in-1 30. Great bags, they are my "go to" bags.

Congratulations!

Enjoy.

I alternate between this bag, and the Peak Design 6L with lighter gear.

the 3n1-22 is the one I used most - usually 1 body, 35, 85, and a flash or 2 - until I got the Sig150-600 - now the think streetwalker pro 2 is the one that does all that. Have taken a liking to birds, that lens goes everywhere I go

I've been using the 3in1-20 lately for my Sigma SD1 with 24-105mm attached, 10-20mm, and 18-300mm superzoom (in case I want to leave the bag in the car and just use the superzoom). There's still room for another lens if I want to take one, as long as it's not too big. If I want to take the 100-400mm with me, then I use the 3in1-30.
