I am also affected by the 10D disease. I ordered + don't know when I will get it + don't even know I will bring it over from US to Portugal !!!

I need to relax. See some photos.

I'll start. Take a look at my site.
http://www.photographisms.com
All taken with 600 Us$ Canon Pro90 IS.

And then let me know if they could be better if i was using a better camera.

I am not saying they are great. Maybe not even good by your standards. Just saying, for a totally amateur, do i need such an upgrade ?

I'm not going to change my mind, though. I did order it. :-)

Hey Hoang !

What have you never heard of ? Graphisms ? Is it mispelled ?

Txs for your comments.

Great pics! You don't need anything new at all. Please cancel your 10D order immediately! That way I move up on the list. :)

I am sure you will love your new camera. :)

I do own a pro90 IS 1 year ago and I manage to get some good shots as follows:

http://megaweb.clubsnap.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album01&id=aaa

http://megaweb.clubsnap.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album02&id=aaa

http://megaweb.clubsnap.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album04&id=aaa

http://megaweb.clubsnap.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album05&id=aaa

http://megaweb.clubsnap.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album06&id=aab

I realise it is very easy to take macro/closeup shots using a consumer digital camera due to its light weight , small and portable. However there are some liimitation such as
  • f8 .. prefer f22 but tt is not available for dc
  • shutter lag .. pro 90 IS has the worst of all
  • slow AF
  • ISO 400 is grainy
I have sold my pro 90 IS away and start to learn SLR/DSLR on macro photography.

Check out my D60 butterfly gallery at

Looooong time !

Good to see another Portuguese around here !

My 2 cents: Your images are very nice and they do justify the purchase price of a D-SLR. Regarding if you or your pictures can benefit from the purchase, I'd say yes, definetly. E.g are you satisfied with the (technical, not artistic) quality of:

I wouldn't be satiesfied and the 10D will make a huge difference.

I think, your images are all very good (if somewhat too cool for my taste, the graphical solution always seems to dominate), so you´ll do even better with the 10D. Just don´t get the "L"-desease.

Your shooting style could probably become very happy with an ultra wide lens, the Sigma 15-30 is only $ 500 and will give you a respectable 24mm wide end with the 10D. Post more pics, once you have the 10D. Get a http://www.pbase.com account, then you can post pics here directly by including their URL and adding "jpg" to the URL.

I am actually thinking of buying the Sigma 15-30, if anyone has one for sale.

Thanks a lot for you advise.

Wonderful work! I like the way you see people. In photography, the first machine is your mind, great photos.

Better photos? Only if you continue the right direction: think what you wanna get before you do the photo.

Upgrade? that's bussines for the companies, and it moves the world. Let me see when you get your 10D. I'll pay my attention.

Nope--they are terrific but you will probably like your prints better. Your compositions, crops, subjects--all are very very good--my kind of photography smile . I will have to look through them again at leisure and leave you some notes about 'favorites'. Looking forward to having you on this forum and seeing more.

B/W lover, but color is seducing me

Yeah...I agree about the mind being the best camera you can have....but I can't wait to get my hands on a 10 D!!!
But I will miss a lot of the Pro90 capabilities.
I will NOT miss shutter lag, AF, etc...

Txs for your comments !!

Absolutely superb photography! Your compositional skill (and eye for color combinations) is wonderful! Your art (for that is what it is) is (as mathematicians like to say) proof by demonstration that it is NOT the camera that makes the artist, but the artist.

Welcome to the Canon DSLR forum. I for one (and I suspect only one of very many here) look forward to sampling your work as you begin exploring your new tool. You have a great talent!

Hey,

Your words are truly inspiring !

People like you and all the others that reacted to my post, are the ones that make me want to spend over 3500 Us$ in 10D + lenses + 1.4TC + etc.... so I can explore this hobby of mine. I only shoot once in a while.

I would say my main characteristics are :
1) composition : my photos have no cropping (maybe 1 or 2) !
I hate cropping. When I press the shutter, the framing is all done !

2) I am not very technical. Shoot P, most of the time. Maybe I could get better results if I took more time to "think the photo". Or maybe not...

Anyway....
my 2 cents.

Txs again
V.

Goodness, no, please don't "think the photo" ! ;-) I mean that serioiusly (and good heartedly, of course). As I look at your images, it is almost instantly obvious to me that you are one of the gifted few who truly "feels" (or "intuits") a pleasing image. One of the surest ways to begin losing** this ability (not that you have to fear that, of course) is to start analyzing it!

Get your new camera, put it in your hands, caress it, attach a lens, play with it, then go out and shoot like you've always shot. The only difference will now be that you will have a more capable picture taking companion to walk around with. But please keep your inner eye exactly the same as it has always been. It'll never let you down.
