What do you think?

Pros and Cons?

Tips on settings etc. (Will primary use mine for actions with long tele-lenses and Macro, and ofc try the 16image pixel shift for nature etc).

Finally getting mine within two days and so eager to test it out and use :-)

Ofcourse there are already quite a few (user)reports of the A7RIV, but it can " never". be enough; I want to know as well. Probably ordering A7RIV this week.

Yes there are but this is a try to get them in one place :-)

I did something this past weekend I said I'd never do...

I used a camera at an all day wedding gig that arrived the day before, the A7RIV. With no testing and only setup to my preferences.

Result? Performed phenomenally and will replace one of my A7iii bodies AND a6500 body. I bounced back and forth between full frame and crop mode to get the most out of my primes as I planned to.

Only odd thing I kept running into is the focus point moving when using viewfinder (large nose problem), but I have the touchscreen turned off when using viewfinder just I do only other bodies, so not sure what's going on there. Need to test it some and figure it out.

The cropping potential is remarkable compared to the A7iii I was using as second body on me with a different prime.

The bride/groom exit was in a worst case situation where the bride and groom were almost completely silhouetted during ceremony. Even a couple flashes setup in large gazebo/barn open sided building didn't help much. But... Dynamic Range performed exactly as I knew it would and the photos were completely salvage-able (bride/groom were warned the backlighting was going to be a potential problem)

Like I'd wish 4 to 5 shots were? Nope. But good enough? Yup.

Considering you only had the A7RIV one day before this wedding, I' m glad that you like it so much immediately. I would not dare to use a new camera (any new camera), after one day for a wedding!

You say the camera performed phenomenally...can you specify more what you mean by this? What performed phenomenally? AF? Handling? Did you use eye af? Tracking? I read that you find dynamic range great.

Thank you!

Focus = better than A7iii

Handling = better than A7iii

Battery life seemed slightly worse maybe than A7iii, but the battery had not had a few recharge cycles yet which usually improves.

Eye AF and tracking.was definitely better for me than A7iii, using similar settings and changing between Backbutton and shutter focusing. The Real Time will spoil you quick.

I wonder about noise performance...some do not like the way it shows noise much earlier than A7RIII or A7III. Any comments?

My biggest complaints specific to the a7r4 iv is sensor dust and noise compared to the a7r ii.

(I also just posted this in another thread) The noise doesn' t look bad in my eyes. On the contrary!...watch those iso1600/3200/5000 files as " full size image" (click on them and then select " full size image"). Colour is fine/enough detail in subject and not too much noise (to my eye at least). I' m talking about the parts that are in focus. Very nice!

Ofcourse background noise is visible and iso12800 definitely is too much (but I never shoot at iso higher than 6400 anyway).

If this is the noise from the A7RIV, then that' s not a problem at all for me!
