They both compare to modern mirrorless or DSLR.

Then Image Quality is average.

This i do not.

Rival is Nikon 900, etc.

Seems sleeklens had the SX70 with the new Firmware Update.

Buffer increased from 13-14 to 20 (JPEG and raw)

and from 42-43 to 45 (JPEG).

Interesting but not much new here. The one thing mentioned was the wide end softness which I don't believe was mentioned in other reviews. Could also be production variance. All reviews offer some insight so more the better. The test photos were a bit small and not expandable. Thanks for the links. :-)

Last year i had the G7XII with me on holidays.

In bright sun i had problems .

This year the new SX70.

Cause of the versatility and EVF the new SX70 is the better holiday Camera.

Two reviews I included in this thread confirm that:

- SX70 HS is a good, versatile, manageable, easily operated holiday-vacation zoom,

- the cam's AF is (surprisingly) more capable than it seems on paper,

- cam stays operational during flushing the frames to the memory card,

- wide - angle output is a bit worse than expected (due to numerous compromises),

- copy variations exist (hence that info on softness at full opt. zoom - not with my copy),

- reviews can differ a lot due to the reviewers knowledge, skills and approach/involvement in testing.

Kind regards,
Avian

There are some new reviews on the SX70 HS. I chose two which I consider the most realistic, truthful and sensible for the potential buyers:

1. https://sleeklens.com/canon-powershot-sx70-hs-review/

2. https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/canon-powershot-sx70-hs

Wish you good reading.
Avian:

One review stated: "Images captured at the widest focal length are somewhat soft."

Question: At what point up the mm scale does the image "softness" resolve to the rest of the better image quality? 24mm 30mm?

The reviewer mentioned softness mostly at the edges of the frame, at probably 100% magnification. If looked at normal viewing size, it should be less apparent.

As for at which FL that softness ends/lessens I didn't test/investigate. I used the cam mainly for birds, mostly at FLs greater than 600mm. Got some decent results using it.

Stay healthy!

Previously, I took some 21mm (equiv) test pictures with my SX70 camera.

Thanks for posting as not many SX70 HS full reviews, i.e., DPR, Imaging Resource, etc.

But agree with others that any review as to comments about IQ without full size images to view/ download is not very helpful.

I've like CameraLabs hands-on reviews/ real world pics that generally includes viewing of full size images from clicking on the images in "Samples" review section.

In CameraLabs' SX70 HS Review (HERE) he does a comparison between the SH70 HS and the COOLPIX B600 (HERE).

Also like full reviews at PhotographyBlog.com as they include full size JPG/ RAW images one can download/ PP on their system with the PP software they use.

PhotographyBlog's SX70 HS Review HERE. Remember there were some here that did not agree with the review's "Rating & Conclusion".

Meh; I think the ability to download full size/ RAW images a great value as doing one's 'own' IQ evaluation; e.g.;

As always to each his/ her own needs/ preferences.

Can the camera be set to show the mm in the exif screen of shots taken?

I haven't used my cameras basically this entire year due to covid19.

But I think during the playback of a picture, the "mm" should be shown as part of the exif informations.

Cheers!

As far as I can recall, I didn't make any settings related to this. If I opened the image in Lightroom, metadata was displayed as normal.

Lightroom shows the SX70 HS metadata normally

Yes, I note that every one of the several post-processing apps I have display the mm among the exif data.

I'm wondering if the mm is displayed in the in-camera exif data after the photo is taken. I don't find mm displayed in my Fuji HS50 playback data. mm being shown is useful when running through shots taken while using the camera.
