Hello everyone,

Hope you are well.

I was looking into getting a good lens for sd Quattro. I just extracted some double sized files, and although they have great resolution, 30mm F1.4 is not the greatest art lens there. I was wondering if anyone here is using the 70mm macro lens with their sd quattro and if I can get some personal experience shared here. I'll mainly be doing portraits, and also I can use it with MC-21 when the FF Foveon comes out next year.

Thank you in advance, looking forward to your reply.

Have a great day!

It is a beautiful combination, giving great detail. You will love it. :)

I had use of the 70 mm macro for a couple of weeks, we had bad weather in Denver during that time. Here is a shot from my front porch. A nothing photo but the detail in the pine tree at the end of the block shows the detail the combo can capture ;) Both imeges taken with the sd Quattro and the 70mm Art macro.

Those shots show some pretty fine details Larry, but the EXIF data is missing. Do you know what apertures you shot those at? What ISO was that snow shot? Did you do some post-processing on them? If so, what did you do?

I have posted some photos from the 70mm f2.8 EX macro on the SD Quattro H at f5.6 from a tripod, using self-timer mode, in the past few months Manzur, and I doubt the new 70mm macro is anything but better. I'm sure for the auto-focus you'll want the newer one.

Sigma had an older 70 that was amazing, that I still have and shoot with...

I had a chance to shoot with the new 70mm and loved it just as much. The nice thing is that unlike so many other new Art lenses, the 70mm is still pretty compact and light, very easy to shoot with.

I would recommend it if you like that focal length.

Hello Scott: I processed both of these shots using the Sigma add-in to PS, which strips out the EXIF data. Both shots were done a F:8 at 1/800 sec. Processing was done in camera Raw and PS.

Thanks for the info. Larry.

:)

Another nice thing about the 70mm is that it should work well with future full frame cameras, as this Facebook user notes on using the 70mm with an 8K FF RED movie camera:

Hi Manzur.

You can see my thoughts along with images taken with the lens here

Hi Paul,

I originally plan to buy this lens in FE mount to use with my Sony A7iii. After reading your thoughts in your link, I decided that I will buy this lens in SA mount to use with my SD15, and will get a MC-11 adapter to use with the Sony. Your images are amazing. Thank you, Paul.

Ha
Thank you for the kind words, glad I could help.

Thank you Kendall, this is a good feature of the lens, most Art lenses are quite heavy. I normally shoot at 85mm / 105mm, and 70mm on APS-C will give me perfect FL. And 70mm is still good when I upgrade to FF.

Have a great day :)
