Disclaimer: I am not a professional photographer-- I just take a LOT of photographs. I will evaluate based on handling and how much I like the pictures I take with the lens.

This lens is inexpensive ($150 US) and makes photographs with incredible quality. The colors are bright and the detail is incredibly fine. I can easily tell which photos were taken with this lens due to its incredible detail.

It is tiny, durable, and always in my bag. It works for any occasion, perfectly filling the role of "nifty fifty". The f1.7 aperture is fast enough for low light work, and combined with the new cameras' onboard image stabilization, makes no-flash low-light photography easy.

Buy this if you want a great quality lens for a low price.

There have been a number of threads about "focus shift" concerning this lens, here is one of them:

I would like to find out more about it, especially if the latest firmware update for that lens addressed the issue or using Manual focus is the answer?

I bought this lens 2 years ago and returned it as it was really soft in the corners and my main use for it is to photograph my paintings so I need sharp across the image. I tried all F-stops and I always use a tripod, not new at this.

Last year, when the price dropped to $147, I thought I would try it again and this time it was great, I'm very pleased with the sharp results. Guess the first one was just bad quality control as happens often. So glad I gave it another shot.

I use the lens with AF on an Olympus OMD E-M10 m3 and haven’t noticed any focus problems.

Thanks for your reply, I've only tried mine briefly indoors and can't say I've noticed any focus problems. I found that I don't really care for narrow DOF and will probably stay away from the smaller f stops. I prefer to see everything in focus.
