Hi,

Totally stupid question, maybe I am having a massive brain fart (likely) but I can't seem to understand the differences between the different options and why the price differential of over $200

Godox/Flashpoint AD 600 vs 600Pro vs XPLOR and Witstro (B/H version).

The only thing that I can perceive is the Pro recycles faster?

I don't seem to find any other difference, when putting specs side by side?

Also, the Pro is a little larger and heavier?

There isn't much of a difference. The non pro version delivers more flashes per charge and the pro version has a different reflector. Otherwise, it's just a price difference

I have and use both but had to look at the web pages for both lights , and then added my own comments to summarize the differences

Whether these are meaningful differences to you is above my pay grade.

Yep, the modeling light is different as well.

What makes the differences important for me are the more powerful modeling light, the greater efficiency at turning electricity into light. But candidly I have not done an apples to apples test with both lights in the same softbox to see if that efficiency is also due to the change in flashtube design and carries over to that type of use.

If it does, the implication is that the 600 Pro will use less energy for a given f/stop and ISO combination which will mean even shorter recycle times between flashes and more flashes per charge.

I will also check to see if it also means more light in the HSS usage.
And the while it may seem like a small deal, the much improved, non-ratcheting and shorter stand mount is important to me. Maybe not to everyone but to me it is.

The Pro has a Stable Colour temperature mode where the colour temperature varies ±75K as opposed to ±200K in normal mode. The modeling light is both more powerful and better positioned than the non Pro and can be set too proportional mode. The flash tube is further forward and has a diffuser so it produces more even light in a softbox. The power can be varied in either 1/3 or 0.1 of a stop. (non Pro only 1/3 stop). Max recycle time 0.9 ses vs 2.5 sec. The light stand mounting handle is massivly better than the non Pro.

On the other hand the non Pro gives ~500 full power flashes per charge vs ~360.

Here's a comprehensive review of the Pro with comparisons with the non Pro http://flashhavoc.com/flashpoint-xplor-600-pro-review-part-1/ Note that it was written before the firmware upgrade that gave the Pro the ability to do 0.1 stop power increments.

I wrote a review of the XplorPRo for Adorama in exchange for the option to keep one of the lights. I liked it so much I opted to keep it, and also bought a second out of pocket. They're really great performers.

Part 1 covers the differences between the Pro and the non-Pro, what I like to call the XplorClassic :D

Part 2 is more technique than tech:

Thank you everyone, I think that really nails it down and explains what I needed to hear.

Kind of got 'cross eyes and fuzzy brained" reading it online in the Adorama site but everyone's explanations were very helpful.

Totally appreciate.

Adorama and B and H could both definitely do a better job of having a consistent layout of specifications even if the manufacturers do not follow a fixed format

This is a very important difference. The original AD-600/Flashpoint XPLOR 600 needed a special speedring because of the way the flash tube is mounted.
