Gorgeous images, as usual of yours!

But how did you dare to use that lens? It is 24 years old design, much older than your model! It can't even AF on the newest Nikon bodies!

Be careful: someone could say you are bashing the present Nikon products. ;-)

It actually focuses perfectly on all of my Nikon bodies. Sharp as a tack I mean, brutally sharp. But, as with all fast lenses, you need to fine tune your lenses on each body.

And you are not buying the Z7, I know...

True! I tried one...

Oh, man.

My favorite lens on my D800E. Do I wish I could do with mine what you do with yours.

Fabulous!

Loved everything Benjamin... apart from the shoes!

The shoes are the common thread running through the whole story, as well as wool of course. :-)

I know and I love the woolly stuff a lot... just the shoes don't gel with some outfits in my very humble I-am-a-photographer-not-a-stylist opinion :-)

Do you think Sony is a option for this type of work like a A73 with a Batis

I shot the D750 and D850 for my stuff

Of course. Absolutely. Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm, etc...could do a fine job for this type of work;

The brand doesn't matter... as long as you choose a setup that works for you. There are numerous things more important than the brand of equipment you use.

Sure, the right model inside of the brand. Nikon has at least 6-8 different camera bodies to choose from but the same lens can be use on all of them.

You can change the name plate to anything just can the camera do what is needed and does one use certain lighting / flash/ speed lights and all of the little stuff there like do you need a HV connection then model matters. If you are wireless how does that look and do you need 3rd party.

So yes to a degree the name of the manufacture does not matter but the model does or it can matter

Note he's using a 180 - where the longest FL for Batis are 135. I use their 85 a LOT on A7RIII/A7RII. But for the longer reach (native FF E-mount) I'll usually go with the 70-200 GM - it's extremely sharp... the only disadvantage being size and weight. Of course if you adapt - you can use any lens you like - including the OP's. Bottom line - FL is an important part of the "look".

For sure, yes,

What do you think of the F 4.0 version of the 70-200 or do you use F 2.8 alot for that one stop? Just staying one stop for like a $1000 difference

OP's 180/2.8 AF-D: "must be ranked among the finest Nikkors of all times in terms of its optics" [Bjørn Rørslett]. (Well, AF is not thunder-fast)

Ben wrote: "Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm, etc...could do a fine job for this type of work.". Agreed, it is mainly the photographer (and the model...), but a lens like this can make a difference. BTW: it used to be found at quite reasonable prices used.

AF on the 180 is super fast...running jumping etc...no problem.

The F4 is a delightful lens (I owned it) - so lightweight and fun to use. BUT it's not the GM. It's not just the 2.8 you're paying for on the GM (it is a beast of a lens) - for (me) certain kinds of work it's a necessity.

No it doe not matter in the vast majority of cases.

Unless you are shooting some really specific scenarios where things such as flash synch speed matter, fashion photography is not really a type of photography that taxes camera bodies. As long as you have a workable lens you will be fine in most cases.

Your photographic eye, ideas, lightning, styling, model, location etc. are way more important.
