FujiFilm X-T20 still worth it?

I have the chance to buy a used FujiFilm X-T20 for about $200. I have a few questions.
  • If I could get a Fujifilm X-T2 for a little more would you do it?
  • Is the X-T20 still a valid camera
  • What sort of lenses go on it. Only Fuji?
  • It doesn't have IS, so what signifies on a Fuji lens that it has IS
  • I prefer to keep the price of the first lens down so the overall purchase remains reasonable. Any recommended 3rd party lenses and adapters that would be needed.
Thanks in advanced.

I would, but at the time i bought the X-T20 the difference was €700, double the price.

Is as valid today as it was. Doesn't lack anything, although if you're a action / sports photographer, maybe the X-T3 is better because of AF-C improved speed.

Thereare some manual lenses from Zeiss Touit, samyang, Laowa and others.

Actually Vitrox is due to release an AF 85mm f1.8 for Fuji as well.

If you have IS on the lens the only thing you could wish for is dual IS (camera IS and Lens IS working together), although its more usefull for video or handheld macro work.

You can use vintage manual lenses from pretty much anyone: Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Helios, Minolta, etc... a manual 50mm 1.8 from those would cost between €20 and €35 euros and more €10 for the adaptor.

I personally wouldn't by an adaptor to AF other brands lenses, as the price becomes high, and doesn't justify not buying Fuji lenses. If you already have them, well, might be worth but AF is always problematic in AF-C, or reasonable on AF-S.

Fantastic answers. So if you were going to pick the T2 or T20, which would you pick. My main use will be photos.

Thanks

My preference for X-T20 was its compactness and weight. Price was also important, but not primarily.

I think so.

I use only Fuji lenses, though they are relatively expensive, but of good quality. Even the kit lenses XC 16-60 and XC 50-230 with OIS II, are sharp. Further I own XF 60 f/2.8 (macro) and XF 27 f/2.8 pancake, both without OIS. I use XF 60 mostly on tripod, so IS is not important for me.

a $200 X-T20? Don’t hesitate-pick it up! You can sell it for double or more if you don’t like it

I doubt you you could get a T-2 for less than $1000 unless you know a good thief.

It is a great camera

There are options but Fuji lenses are your best option for af and IQ is very good.

OIS is in the name/ designation of the lens. Mostly the zooms few of the primes have it. Unless you shoot run-and-gun video or need to take long exposures of the inside of dark cathedrals or something, you do not need IS.

fuji 16-50 or 15-45 EZ. Both cheap, light, with OIS. Good IQ. Probably used for $200, maybe less.

The newer cameras are always the newest computer

depends what you need out of your camera not what I or anyone else thinks you need

generally speaking if you are testing the waters never spend too much and if you do know gear depreciates 50% for the most part very quickly.

If you want full frame don’t buy Fuji save longer

if you want a current Fuji body wait and buy it once

unless you are buying really cheap or money is no object

point is to ask is this worth it to you for what you need not what this forum thinks it is too biased a question

Im old and need IS. My pictures are soft without it.

@HP1999: Good point. I have a Canon SL1. I would like to update it but I just dont want to spend a bunch of money (well not at this time). I would love to have a Sony A7 II (built in IS), but all the used ones end up going for about $700-$800 and I can get a new one at Amazon for a little over a grand. Ive always liked the color of Fuji and I looked at the test image pattern and the XT2 looks almost as good as the A7 II when I compare the two. Plus, its $200

Oh yeah, I should mention. I like my images sharp but not artificially sharp.

Either one will allow you to make good photos.

Now, as for the sharpness, it depends more on the lens, which leads to the question everyone will ask.

What lens are you thinking of buying? What Canon ones do you have now that you like most?

I only travel with the X-T20. I wouldn't even consider an X-T2 or XT-3.

Weight+size trump marginal features, for me.

You'd be dumb not to buy this cameras for $200...

If one of your main concerns is also the total purchasing price I would go for the X-T20 over the X-T2. The X-T20 and X-T2 share the same sensor and processor so image quality is the same. Putting your budget towards an extra or better lens would do more for your results than the camera does.

If money isn't much of a problem then teh X-T2 would offer some more options and protection (weather resistance). Even though I'd always take weather resistance with a large grain of salt, it does help.

I have a Canon 18 to 135 with the image stabilization that I just love. Don’t tell me I could put this on one of these Fuji cameras and it will work! That would be fantastic

Actually, to my knowledge, all the Zeiss Touits support AF on Fuji bodies. My 12mm certainly does.

I think there are adapters for Canon lenses. Probably cheap ones without autofocus and expensive ones with af. Anyway, I love my X-T20 and I recommend it to anyone who wants a compact camera with good IQ.

Ok... dumb question since my SL1 is so old I’m guessing it doesn’t have it. Whats IQ?
