How to store A7R3 raw in slot1 and jpeg and videos in slot 2?

i tried and failed to set my A7R3 so that RAW images are stored in slot 1 and the rest (JPEG and occasional videos) are stored in slot 2.

Best I could achieve is RAW in slot 1, JPEG in slot 2, but videos go in slot 1 too.

As a result my smaller fast card in slot 1 is full, while larger slower card in slot 2 is not used by the camera even though it is almost empty.

Also no spill over for RAW (switch to slower card when the faster is full)

this is one thing Sony could do much friendlier: for each of the three kinds of files, I should be able able to select a primary destination, and an optional secondary destination. Easy to grasp, easy to setup.

Thanks for your help

Quality:RAW+JPEG

select rec media: Slot 2

rec. Mode: sort (JPG/RAW)

this works for me on an A9. JPG and movies go to Slot 2 and RAWs go to slot 1. A7RIII and A9 menus ARE different. no guarantees this works for you.

Also works for me. Quote from manual:
  • Sort(JPEG/RAW):
Records an image in JPEG format to a memory card in the memory card slot that you select in [Prioritize Rec. Media], and records an image in RAW format to the other memory card. Movies are recorded to the memory card in the memory card slot that you selected in [Prioritize Rec. Media].

indeed it works, but the terminology used by Sony is totally opaque. It didn't help that the answers above didn't use Sony's terminology.

So for my own sake, and perhaps any future readers, here are the precise settings.

Go to the Setup menu page 6/7 and choose the first item "Rec. Media Settings".

This brings you to a page with three menu items and two lines labelled "Slot 1" and "Slot 2" which reflects what goes where.

For the first setting "Prioritize Rec. Media", choose Slot 2 (yes, the slowest. I know, it's counter intuitive).

For the second setting, "Recording Mode", choose "Sort(JPEG/RAW)" (which makes no sense, at least until you think hard about it for a couple minutes).

(Well not really screenshots. I took photos of the camera LCD with my phone. How can you do those beautiful LCD screen shots you see everywhere?)

Have to double check my settings.

I have the A7iii and Panasonic G9

Essentially I want the UHS ii card for raw and video and UHS I for jpeg

Unless I’m shooting JPEG or raw only

One advantage of the Panasonic G9 i also one is both slots are UHS ii compliant

I think if Sony updates the A7iii with two UHS ii slots it would be one reason I’d upgrade to a A7iv

I like how you at least get it confirmed graphically on the A7Riii, it's more of a trial and error affair on the A9...

To record the screen you'll need to use the HDMI out on the camera and some kind of HDMI recorder or capture card. If you only want to record menus and maybe instructions, something cheaper will do, like a USB capture card for your computer.
