A bit of a rainy photo session but overall nice time.

I love the colours from the processing.

It looks a tad over-processed to me on the verge of an HDR ...

It might pay off to have a play with a variety of "possibilities" as the histogram seems well balanced. What made you chose F16?? Diffraction kicking in at F10 and up.

Regarding the X-H1 did you take the shot (3 seconds????) hand-held? In that case I would find this remarkable (4-stops = 3000ms/1500ms/750ms/375ms/190ms - or 1/5s). Alternatively you could have shot the scene with an X-T2 and 16-11-8-5.6-4 but my guess is that even though the 18-55 is stabilised you might not get away with the 1/5s ...

Or make the city stand out a tad more??

I hope you don't mind although your image doesn't say C&C??

The greens look better toned down but I still find the picture hurts my eyes. I assume the OP intended that particular look.

Well I am truly sorry for hurting your precious eyes. My intention was for more of an hdr look as I am printing it on metal tonight. This is for me so I went with what I like. I am all for criticism but sometime rudeness gets a bit annoying, just saying. Hope this doesn't hurt your eyes so much.

I went with what I like to be printed by me for me. Here is the normal looking one.

This looks like the Skyline with an X-H1, the other is more the Skyline by Gary.

Nice. :)

I love it, dude. Just got a metal print from Bayphoto.com. The blacks and the highlights were amazing. Can’t wait to print my 20x30s and those metal prints can take a ton of pushing - color-wise.

Can’t hurt my eyes!

I'd love to see how this turned out when printed -- the colours must look amazing!

I see, sorry I hadn't realised you wanted the image for a metal print?? But even then you could have toned down the sky and the foreground to "lead" you straight into downtown Seattle (does it ever rain there??)

I am sorry if you thought that my comments were rude and disrespectful, I had no intention to suggest that the shot itself wasn't any good, but only gave you some feedback (knowing that a lot of people online are happy with a little thumbs up ;-) )

I like it though others think it's a bit juiced up but for a metal print maybe that's a good thing. If you're happy with it that's all that matters and I think it would make a great print.

My only thought which you can/will completely disregard if you so choose would be next time keep the aperture at f5.6 ~ f8. You're well into diffraction at F16 which is softening the image unnecessarily and you didn't need the DoF and I don't think you were looking for motion blur but maybe I missed something.

Late last year I experimented with the HDR merge feature in LR/PS and though I'm sure there are better programs I'm amazed at how simple this is to do. If done properly you get the benefit of not only a few extra stops of DR to play with but also better tonality and detail along with lower noise. For a shot like this I could see a 5 frame blend at ISO 200/f5.6 and obviously use shutter speed for the bracketing.

I'm not comparing this shot below to yours or saying it's in the same league but only posting for the sake of showing you the result I got on my first attempt with the HDR merge feature. If you're interested I can provide the very quick, simple workflow if you're using both LR and PS. It's pretty cool when PS saves the 32 bit Tiff back into LR and you have +/- 10 stops of exposure adjustment to work with. IMO it would be a perfect technique to use on shot like yours and in post you make the decision of how juiced up you want it to be.

Nice work and please take a photo of the metal print and post if you can.

Bob

Edit: I did not apply any sharpening to the image below.

Don't you dare make me out to be the bad guy here!

#1. You asked for critique and criticism then cry when it's not to your liking.

#2. Nowhere did you mention anything about HDR or intending it for a metal print - nowhere! Maybe an excuse - maybe not but it was your omission unless you expect me to be a mind reader.

#3. I stand by what I said, it still hurts my eyes to view the original posted image. Mine was the 3rd response, the second also mentions the over - processed look. The "normal" version is much better.

#4. I'm obviously not alone in my view even after you said it was for a metal print.

If you can't take criticism then don't ask for it.

You owe me an apology - but I know it won't be forthcoming.

Fellas, I'd appreciate it if you both could take it down a notch and keep it impersonal.

Thanks...

I'm not trying to be cantankerous, but where does he ask for C&C?

I for one love punchy contrasty colours, so even though this is bordering on HDR, it's not tasteless to me. I would love to see this on a metal print.
Looking at the original post in Safari on my Mac, it does say in faint type that C & C are requested. I think this comes when you start a new "share photos" thread and then check the tick-box requesting such. Maybe doesn't show up in all browsers?

Plus 1 to your second paragraph. For me maybe slightly over the top for a "normal" print but I'm very sure would look great on metal.

It's still there. Gavin, these are not just punchy and contrasty they are terrible - unless one is trying for a particular look and then they need to say so.

Thanks, guys. My brain doesn't see that faint grey text, it just disappears into the gear-list unless I'm looking for it.
