I am pondering a new lens choice. for Nikon D850. I have the tamron 24-70, 15-30 and telem 150-600 .

My next goal is macro and I was considering the tamron 90mm macro (1:1) . this is nice ... but now I see there is also the Laowa 60mm (0.2:1-2:1) and also the upcoming 2.5-5:1 magnification.

For the price I could by 1 tamron (1:!) or the Laowa set for the same money

Pro: Tamon is autofocus so I can use the step focus of the Nikon camera and VC

Con: 1:1 works many times but not all the time for extra magnification

Can you share your opinions ?

Thanks

It depends on whether or not you need greater than life size images. If you need 2:1 or 5:1, then your choice is easy. And will you be happy with less than 1mm DOF, and are you prepared to take 20, 40, or even 100 or more images and stack them in post to get the sufficient DOF? Do you have the equipment to accomplish that?

If you are just setting out in macro photography then the Tamron 90 and the Laowa 60 a whole heap easier than the upcoming 25mm Laowa which is deeply specialised, or will be. Even getting close to 1:1 will need an awful lot of practice and learning. Get some decent instructional material. Lighting is a bigger issue than a lot of the rest. Tripod and suitable head...

Despite what people say AF and VR both help close up photography.
