Hi I have seen it stated that Adobe's DNG converter will handle the new GP raw files but my version 10 won't. Has anyone else been able to open these files?

Camera is just announced not available - I doubt any converter will be able to deal with it. Until you change something in EXIF to GH5. Then it might work

OK but I have seen it stated on these forums that DNG will open these files, they must have an unreleased version of DNG converter?

That is most probably correct. DNG converter so far always supported new cameras even though some RAW converters not. E.G. Lightroom 6 will probably never support G9 - however DNG converter will - after some time when camera will be available on the market. However I do not think they have unreleased version of DNG right now - but maybe I am wrong.

I share my method to open the unsupported RAW.

Unsupported G9 RAW file
Unsupported G9 RAW file

Open the G9 RAW file in HEX editor. Replace the string “G9” by “GH5”. (I assume the G9 sensor is identical to the GH5)

Now it can be opened as a GH5 RAW file.

Worked Like a charm. (well for ACDSEE but LR and PS did not like the change. I downloaded a free editor called HxD and Under the Search menu I selected replace and then entered G9 in the 'search for:' box and GH5 in the 'Replace with:' Box. It will give you a warning that this will change the file size. I said ok and saved it. It works like a charm. Thanks.

I've just discovered that the ON1 RAW 2018 trial will open these G9 raw files. The results need tweaking but I am unfamiliar with this program at the moment.

It works with the RAW files posted by DPR but the first file developed, the autumn tree, exhibits vignetting which is almost fully corrected in the DPR posted Jpeg rendering

PS - the program is a bit slow & hesitant in responding & needs occasional 'nudging' to move on to the next stage. It recognizes the Pan Leica 12-60mm lens but does not appear to correct it.

Here is the first rather clumsy attempt at using ON! raw 2019 compared with the DPR Jpeg

DPR Jpeg
DPR Jpeg

Developed in ON! 2018
Developed in ON! 2018

NB - I have done this quickly to demonstrate that it can be done, not necessarily to show any superiority over camera generated Jpeg. Note that the RAW file contains more info at the edges, presumably because the camera applies lens correction?

Have you tried Harald Heim's MetaRaw?

It opens E-M1 MkI and MkII files in CS6.

Hi John, I've just tried the demo version of Metaraw & it works well - faster than ON1 when used as CS6 plugin. I was only really interested in trying the G9 raws to check for CA which someone reported here but so far can't find any.

DPR shot this pic at F4.0, presumably as a test, & maybe that is why vignetting is so pronounced?

Glad it worked for you :-) .

Do bear in mind that MetaRaw is reading an unknown RAW file, so it's making a sort of guess at its structure, etc.

Nothing like this can be properly ascertained until there is proper support for the native RAW file.

The G9 looks to be a very good camera, but the Devil's always in the precise details for our own particular usage.

All the best with your investigations.

Lightroom 6 is presently at version 6.13 and there will be a final update by the end of 2017. That is what was advised on the Lightroom Journal web page by Tom Hogarty.

Maybe so but eventually ACR and the DNG Converter will be updated and you will be able to convert the raw files to the DNG format and import into LR 6.

@Vlad I am not trying to convince you to adopt a DNG workflow, I am just advising the option that will be available. Do a web search on “the pros and cons of converting to DNG.

I personally do not use dng files, just saying.
