Looks like it can be missed otherwise.

I made a procedure for downgrade to 1.05, which is described in other thread, but just in case, here is instruction:

What you need to do

1) configure on your PC/Mac proxy server for HTTP

host: mc11.antst.net

port: 8088

2) Run Sigma Optimization Pro, it will prompt to update firmware, do it.

3) Enjoy 1.05

While you use my proxy, you will have no access to other HTTP sites, as it allows only what is necessary for MC-11 FW downgrade. After you downgraded FW, remove proxy settings.

Disclaimer: I can not guarantee anything for obvious reasons It is fully your responsibility if you choose to use my hack. So far it worked for everyone who did it (about 30 users, Mac and PC)

If you feel like buying beer for me for this effort, I wouldn't mind, my PayPal is ant.starikov_at_gmail.com

Will giver it a try when I have time. The new firmware destroyed the usability of my Canon lenses and even made the 35 1.4 Art perform worse. Thank you for this.

Do I need a password to get onto your http site? I don't really know what I'm doing and even after googling it makes no sense. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm on a mac.

Thanks

No need for password, but I can't say how to do it with windows, I guess you have to set it somewhere in IE settings. Just hostname and port.

One of users nicely proposed to make short video with explanation for windows users, so, if you are not in rush, you can wait a bit till it is ready.

That could NOT have been easier! Great work! Thanks and enjoy the beer. :-D

Sorry about replying to myself, but I had a PM requesting a little more OS-specific help. Here's how it went for me on Win10.

This assumes you have previously installed the latest version of the Sigma Optimizer app, found your very unusual Sigma USB cable and connected your MC-11 to your PC with said cable.

NetworkSettings>Proxy>ManualProxy=ON

Address = (as provided by Antst, above)

Port = 8088

<Save>

Then I fired up the Sigma Optimizer app and let it do its thing. When it finished it said my firmware was 1.05. Close Sigma Optimizer. Then...

NetworkSettings>Proxy>ManualProxy=OFF

<Save>

... Bob's your uncle.

Thanks for the explanation! I don't use Windows (and almost never did, with the exception of few month back in 2000), so can provide little help here.

Regarding cable, normally it should come with MC-11. So I guess most users have it.

I do have one final question. Should I now have options for all the different focus modes? I can only get AF-S on my A7sii. It says that I can't have AC-C or man or DMF as my lens is not supported. I've tried it with a variety of Canon glass - mostly L lens but not all.

Thanks

Do you have PDAF or CDAF enabled on camera?

in my case , with PDAF, I can select both, AFC and AFS.

I don't think the A7sii has phase detection. That's not a problem as the A7s is purely for film.

I'm just trying to decide if I will be selling my Canon bodies and get a A7rii for stills work. From the speed of focussing on the A7s if that was the same on the A7r then I couldn't risk it as it is so slow compared to a Canon and Canon lens over the Sony with MC11 and Canon glass. So I'm looking at slowly swapping my Canon lenses to Sony.

All things for me to think about.

In any case, swapping lenses is inevitable, adapting is a pain and will be pain in foreseeable future. The only problem that:

1) native lens choice is still limited

2) swapping is a financial pain, which is not always can be financial motivated.

perhaps not: [1] some makers of smart adapters are making swift progress - virtually in leaps and bounds - esp. Matabones/Conurus :D

[2] It'd take aeons if not longer for Sony to be able to put on their offer so many long teles as does Canon (and Nikon, although in their case situation with any good AF'ing smart adapters is really dismal and seems hopeless).

Also, as the final cost of glass for end-user is to some extent derived from manufacturers' R&D outlay (divided by the items total volume sold) , Sony's longer lenses are more costly (and heavier too) than the corresponding Canon's.

So, IMHO the smart adapters are there to stay yet for a pretty long time :P

PS if anyone is interested in the fascinating story of how the downgrade to FW 1.05 was ever made possible and achieved you can look here and there.

There is also factor, adapting exiting lenses, or buying new. I can understand why someone with 135/2 wants to avoide replacement cost and uses it adapted. But, buying new one, it is clearly better to go with Signa and official lens vendor supported adapting. After all, sigma sells it as official E-mount lens in combination with their mc-11.

And it looks like third-party lens manufacturers are finally starting to believe in longer life of E-mount. And start to develop native lenses, which is easier than for canikon, as you don't need to rely on RE.
