Should I go for a Nikon D810 now?

Hellow...

I am planning for an upgrade from my Canon 6D and the Nikon D810 is one that I have my eyes on...

I am slightly worried at the moment with Nikon announcing their 'Extara Ordinary Losses" and such... Is that going to be a good investment...? Any suggestions...?

Other similar options available are Canon 5D M III and M IV... but M III is too old and M IV is beyond my budget...

Cheers :-)

D810 is a fantastic camera. What about your 6D do you think needs to be upgraded?

The 6D is no slouch, but the D810 is a world-class DSLR. I wouldn't have any hesitation upgrading from a 6D if I had the funds and the need. Nikon finances are a temporary situation.

Magnificent camera. I do not believe that the "situation" of Nikon is of concern.

That's a financial term for losses that occurred due to a single write off and will not reoccur in the future.

If you regard digital cameras as expendables to be used until no longer meeting your requirements, it is a fantastic camera that in all likelihood will still be working well when you get ready for your next upgrade.

I suggest you jump on one. :)

honestly you shoulda gone for it last week when it was on sale.

Go for it

just guessing that the price will continue to drop (or more offers available) when getting closer to the new release a.k.a. D820... but it is a bet...

I've no idea about nikon finances and future stability, but I do know that if you change from the 6D to nikon you're going to have to factor in the cost of good lenses. At that point, I have to question the financial sense compared to sticking with canon? It depends on what kit you already have, what you will get for that if you sell it, and what you will end up buying.

I'm still using D800s from 2012 and that's after shooting three years on the Sony systems. The camera still gives amazing results that I've shot billboards, magazine covers, and more.

Nikon isn't going anywhere just yet and has 100 years of gear floating around. Its mount is too valuable to "disappear" within the next 5 years.

If you are exceptionally quick and hurry up, you may just have enough time to get it, before they goes tits up...

Gear can not be considered an investment...
Any suggestions...?
Get, what you like the most...

I think you should consider gray market 5D Mark4, it's about the same price as D810 now. If you asked 1 month earlier, I would say D810, it would save you $300 plus free battery grip, but the Nikon sale just ended. Don't wait for the upcoming D820/850 if best value is your priority.

One of the most responsive and accurate cameras in the market. A tool that will grow with you and awe you in many ways

the 6D is indeed a good camera... but with 11 focus points and only one cross type it is more of a portrait or studio camera.... my interest more in to birds and wildlife... and hence I found the D810 more suitable.. :-)

well, I had a Nikon DX with some lenses and I already managed to sell the 6D with the lenses for a good price... I still have my Nikon lenses... so that part is covered...

It depends on which lenses those are - DX lenses are of limited use on FX, hopefully you'll have a head start.
