Affinity: too slow?

Thank you, I have set an ICC profile, Adobe RGB. In Affiniy Performance, what are the best settings on RAM limit and renderer?
I'd experiment with this but generally Adobe's suggestion for PS is to set it to 75%-80% of all available RAM, so that's what I did for Affinity, too. For renderer, choose your main gfx card and make sure your gfx card has the latest drivers installed. You can also switch to WARP (Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform) and see if that helps with performance, but the gfx card option is the default one for a reason.

I got an email this morning from Affinity/Serif: "We’re getting ready to launch the version 1.6 updates of Affinity Photo and Designe..."

I'm hoping it's been worth the wait.

I bit the bullet and just wasted a day working with the trial version of Affinity Photo. Really wanted to try the exposure stacking function. I found the interface less than intuitive, even as a long time Photoshop user. And the longer I worked the sloooooooower the program got, locking up several times. Really can't even work: Redrawing after applying each tool or layer adjustment takes so many seconds that I can't even judge what I'm doing. Ugh!

Hmmmm... like the "Racetrack".. ;) I'm not sure why you're no longer a Photoshop user, maybe exploring other horizons or alternatives? Affinity Photo hasn't yet reached it's maturation date, but it beats a subscription license.

I bought Affinity Publisher when it was first issued (having used Serif software since their inception) and it loaded a little slowly, but about the same as PhotoShop, which I occasionally use for teaching purposes. This was quite acceptable since I knew my PC was not particularly powerful. Then came the latest version of Windows 10 and the program just refused to open at all - both DrawPlus and PlagePlus also stopped working after the up-date. Nobody seemed to be able to resolve the problem so I assumed that it was due to lack of processing power and RAM that Windows is now insisting on.

I have just upgraded my machine with a large SSD and now have 22GB of RAM. Affinty does now open, at least, but it takes about 5-6 minutes. All my other software, which includes quite a few equally power-hungry beasts, all now open almost instantly.

So can Serif please explain why I used to be able to open Affinity quite easily on a less powerful machine, but now I have to go and make a cup of tea whilst I'm waiting?

Come back DrawPlus and PlagePlus - all is forgiven - I miss you so much!

As this thread is almost 3 years old, you might be better off starting a new thread and/or getting in touch directly with Serif.

Asking here is wasting your time. Go to the Affinity Photo Forums on the Affinity website and ask.

You will undoubtedly find that your GPU settings need amendment or drivers need updating.

I can open AP in 16 seconds using a 7 years old Toshiba with 4gb ram..

I now open it in 7 seconds using a Dell 5570, SSD and 16gb ram. Both win 10.

Good luck.

Besides which, the OP was talking about Affinty Photo, not Affinity Publisher, which is a completely different product.

I can start Affinity Publisher in about 7-8 seconds on a 9 yr. old laptop with i5-2430M processor and 6GB ram

I would suggest you try Affinity forums. It would seem you have some serious settings not right .
