P800 - Remove Paper Error

I have a relatively new P800. Pretty much since I got it I have had error messages about wrong paper sizes (roll media being installed when it' not) or error messages telling me to remove paper when there is none to remove.

This morning I got the error, but this time I couldn't click through it on the front panel like I normally do. I tried to restart the printer, but it wouldn't shut down. I then unplugged it, and not it won't start stating that I need to remove paper. My visual inspection seems to indicate that there isn't any paper to remove.

Any ideas on what I can do or do I need to box it up and take it in?

Contacted Epson. They decided to provide a warranty replacement. New printer is set up and it is doing the same thing the old one did. Is anyone else having this issue?

Double check and ensure that you have removed all tape used to pack/ship the printer. Sounds like you may have missed something if this is the 2nd printer that's experiencing this error.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just went through all the paths twice with a flashlight and don't see anything I've missed.

Not good news. Some printers have doors, panels that must be completely closed, but I am sure you have checked all that. Good luck.

Can you confirm that you do not have a roll adapter installed? If there is one installed, perhaps remove it and see if that changes the behavior?

Sorry, that's about all I can think of but it is very unlikely that you received two different P800's that exhibit the same behavior. Odd.

That would not have anything to do with it.

It does not have any connections that would talk to the printer.

Mine stays installed all day.

Check you make sure your paper feed choice is correct and that the rear feeder is closed.

Also make sure in the page setup tab the paper input size matches the output size.

There is a box that automatically sets the in and out paper size to match.

It's shocking what havoc that silly settings can cause.

Did you ever get that issue fixed with your Edson p800. I am getting the same remove paper error. The printer has been unusable for over a year Epson won’t replace mine since it was a few months over warranty. This is insane, I probably only printed 10photos before this happened. If you have any info please shoot me an email is you don’t mind... would be much appreciated. [email protected]

Epson have know about this Error for a Very Long time but will not admit it to you.

I had same problem with my p600 besides the one that Fuffed up my VM ink head.

To resolve the ink roller problem, turn your printer around and where you see the hole where the roller fits, give it a gentle tap or poke a pencil in there. That worked for me.. Mine started when I grabbed hold of my printer to move it. When you do that you be holding/squeezing that roller part. Give it go.

Me. Scary, are you saying that there are sensors in the holes where the roll attachment screws into? I looked and there doesn’t appear to be any. You’re right Edson knows about this issue, but apparently won’t help. This kind of fault qualifies as a product defect and should be covered outside any warantee. If anyone else is also seeing this issue please post. I have a feeling this is a common issue that seems to brick a printer. Mine has been broken for a year now. However I’m still I’m determined to find a solution since I’ve only printed 10-15 prints on it!!

Good Luck. I'm still hitting a Brick wall after 18 months with Epson. Looks like court action is only way.

I'm getting the same error, and there seems to be no solution, has anyone found out anything else regarding this issue? I had an epson sc p800 that worked fine for 2 years. I've just bought a new one a couple weeks ago, and I'm already having issues with this one. any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I tried resetting the roller with no luck, don't see any packing tape stuck anywhere, and the printer seems to think there is paper in the roller and that i want to print through the back roller when there isn't and I don't. please help.

UPDATE: my problem was easily solved so I'm hoping this will help others. apparently I had my printer in bright sunlight and it was affecting one of the sensors. here is the response I received from epson:

Thank you for contacting Epson regarding your SureColor P800. It is my pleasure to respond to your inquiry. Sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the printer. Do you get the message to remove paper and load paper in the rear when the printer is sitting idle or only when you send a print job over? If you get the message as the printer is sitting idle with no job being sent to it try moving the printer around. Usually this is attributed to bright light directed at the printer and confusing a paper sensor in the back of printer. If you are getting this message as soon as you send the print over please check your print settings. Most notably, if you are NOT using a custom paper size make sure you select your listed page size plus the correct source in parentheses, i.e. US Letter (Sheet Feeder).

so now since i've kept my curtain shut behind my printer, all issues seem to be resolved.

hope this helps!

You read my mind. Was just about to suggest sensors. Glad you're back on track.

An update on this problem. About a month ago I downloaded new firmware and the problem hasn’t happened since.

That's definitely it in my case, I just had this happen today with my P800 which is how I came across this thread, just so happens it's the first time I've printed on a sunny day at midday with the curtain fully open behind my desk hahah.
